Hi all, I have been looking at different blindfolds I want one for a comedy juggling act where I squeeze through a tennis racket. I've done the routine a lot and just wanted to add something extra for those that may have seen it before.
So I'm thinking of doing it while blindfolded and include some comic moments, like nearly falling off stage, getting hit in the head when my volunteer throws the balls to me and at the end pulling off my shorts to reveal funny tights underneath. I don't want a hood type blindfold but one that is more like an eyemask/just covering the eyes, as I do a lot of facial expressions in my show and its mainly for children. Also I want one that I can put on a volunteer to show its not see thru. By the way I have a really tiny head, narrow and small (wear kids glasses, its that small) so need something that would fit well and also not look too big on. And also most of my shows are outside in sunlight, I've heard some are not good for this and reveal the secret. I've looked at: The steel blindfold, invented by Richard Osterlind would this be suitable? Or any of these: Blindfold strap style: http://www.illusionwarehouse.com/Cart/de......28171835 See thru Blindfold at Magictricks.com: http://www.magictricks.com/see-thru-blindfold.html True Sight by Modern Magic blindfold: http://www.amazon.com/Blindfold-Sight-Mo......0FE6EFNS I have to have good enough vision to juggle. Thanks in advance.... |

On the Blindfold act, if you are working for Kids they may decide to test you to see if you can see and it won't take not long for them to push you into revealing your secret. I'd only try it if you have great audience handling skills.
I do a comedy juggling act that always gets a good response (and my juggling is not exceptional). -Mary Mowder |

Just a thought but it sounds like a regular old bandanna blindfold would fit the bill. I think Corinna's 13 steps to mentalism could be a good thought. He talks about how to fold it and when and where to wear white or black. I know impromptu blindfolds seem to be more affective at least as I've seen. Case and point all the blind fold drives that use dough, tape, coins, etc. I think part of any type is acting as if you "just thought of using" the blindfold. If the audience believes you just thought of it they will never think you had it prepared ahead of time.

The trick to convincing everyone that the blindfold is real is to close your eyes when you are NOT juggling, and only open them when you need to.

I own the steel blindfold, invented by Richard Osterlind and this blindfold would not be suitable for the act.
I also have a blindfold that may work for you; the spectator can put it on and not see anything, when you put it on you have a view, if you want to know about how the gimmick works, PM me for further details |

I would use a pirate eye-patch on one eye, then put one on the second eye. It would look funny.
Also, the more you try to prove the blindfold is genuine, the more they will question it. So I wouldn't bother. Introduce the blindfold, put it on, and get on with the act. I have used the see-thru blindfold from Magictricks.com and it is both comfortable and easy to use.

I have a Dave Elder blindfold that I used about 40 years ago for a blindfold drive. I don't know if anyone still makes it, but it works just fine. It can be tested before and after you wear it.

If it's comedy joggling, then use a blindfold with a hole cut out of one eye area.
Keep your face to one side so that hole cut-out is upstage. Perform the usual comedy skits, eg. finding the clubs etc. After skilful juggling and getting applause - turn to face the audience to say, 'thank you'. Reveal the hole in blindfold, and get a roar of laughter (as well as more applause). |

I'm a juggler and I use a blindfold bag to do the type of comedy routine you are talking about. I got mine from Tony Clark years ago.
http://www.tonyclarkmagic.com/magicshop/......t_id=104 I was disappointed with the one I got from Tony. When I put it over someones head they could see through it! No I wasn't operating it improperly. Tony's seamstress used the wrong material. I explained this to Tony by email and he was friendly and offered a return but the problem was I needed it for a show. So I took it to my seamstress and she opened the seems and added some opaque material and it has worked great for years. I'm guessing this was just a problem with a small run but you might want to email Tony and quiz him about how opaque the material is when the blindfold is set to be worn by your audience member to test it. |
