That was a great review. Snapped this up off of the "For Sale" forum. Just came yesterday and I'm already very much liking it. A little more reading and some practice and I can see this as a real worker this holiday season.

Just recently received this and haven't performed it yet but I like it a lot.
Well made props and very nice handling and routining by Steve Shufton. I like the fact that it's something similar to a copper/silver routine yet looks very different, but at the same time the props used are very common and well-known to spectators. The routine supplied is a single phase routine and while it's very good, to me this routine just screams for a second phase (although that's subjective and others will surely disagree.) But it's simple enough to add a second phase to it if so desired. I like to first do it in my hands and then do it in the specs hands. My only minor disappointment with the prop itself is that for the price I was hoping the gimmick would be able to align itself automatically, which I believe would be easy enough to do when being manufactured (perhaps in version 2, Steve?) Now of course this can be overcome through practice and it's not because I'm lazy and don't like practicing, but IMO this is one of those cases where it would be quite helpful if the prop took some of the guesswork out of it, especially since I think such an addition would be fairly simple and inexpensive to make. But having said that, it's a pretty minor quibble and overall I would consider this to be a winner from Steve Shufton. I'm very happy he created and released this and I'm totally pleased with my purchase of it. If the effect appeals to you then I would certainly recommend it highly. |

I received Fobulous last week and I have been playing around with it. I do like it a lot --Steve certainly did a great job with this.
I am partial to doing the effect in the spectator's hand. Truth be told, I am struggling a bit with a presentation. I have been reading the posts to see if anyone has developed a decent storyline to go with the effect. There have been some discussion on ideas, and although helpful, it would be great if someone would be willing to share their patter. It is a relatively short routine, but with the right patter it can pack a wallop.

Videoman: So glad you are enjoying Fobulous! I know of several other magicians who are using a more-than-one-phase routine - great idea. My own routine, although a single phase, can take more than a minute to perform - that is, when performing in a participants hands. So happy to hear of the explorations and creativity being applied to these - one of my very favorite props.
Virtualwizard - I hope a few folks are PMing you with their ideas. Many have been sent to me, including ideas that mentalists could use. I thought Peter Nardi's idea of how skillfully someone could be pick-pocketed is a clever idea. The Heart and Star symbols could represent, for example, ego versus heart. I've done routines having to do with losing my keys, or always getting the wife's keys by mistake. Perhaps there are pixies in the house that exchange them when they are in the dark! My own most-used routine is very straightforward - two items transpose while the participant is holding them, with the use of magic. Simple, I know - but packs a VERY strong "wallop" - I usually get screams! (I like to perform this with a female assistant, but the reactions I get from men are amazing as well!). Best wishes to all, and thanks very much for the positive responses to Fobulous! So many have written to tell me this went straight into their act - I'm very pleased to hear it! -Steve

Nick - clothing is highly overrated, and completely unnecessary with Fobulous! and the other wonderful effects you mentioned - except, what do you do when you need to put them away? Ouch! Is that when misdirection comes into play?

Thanks, Nat! So glad you are enjoying Fobulous. It is especially gratifying, having a December release that few people have had a chance to look at by year's end, and getting such strong feed-back.
Best wishes and thanks again- Steve

This really is an excellent effect - I love how well thought out the routine is - which makes the magic even more mystifying. Its simplicity is its strength to my mind. Full review here: http://www.bicycle-cards.co.uk/2016/02/1......-review/

In my head in trying to build a story around it to ensure it's not over too quickly, as it's not a cheap effect. Would be good to hear your thoughts on how it's going down with spectators. Many thanks, Jon |

Don't worry about it being over quickly- I am finding that a lot of times when you perform an effect that has a strong visual aspect it doesn't hurt the end result- audience reactions! Sometimes you get audiences that really don't want a story told to them in which this is perfect. If I sense my audience is "impatient", I will perform FOBULOUS first in my hands then again in their hands. Works fantastic! RNK

The gimmick is worth the money and the result is a great intake of breath from preferably a female (really not a sexist remark just the ladies tend to react better) The only time I did this with a male the reaction was (oh right very good) get my reasoning.? Read the little booklet several times while holding the fobs and you can go through the routine yourself as performer and spectator as with anything play around with it until you don't need to refer to the booklet anymore you totally convince them what Fob is in each of their hands it is a real fooler (something that the video clip does not show as per my previous comments) |

In a close up setting, I use it as an opener. I tell the audience that they are going to witness some magic tonight. So before we begin I want them to see that everything is fair.
We will do a little experiment to make sure they are prepared. Make sure to watch my hands and make sure that I don't do anything funny. The first and second time nothing happens. But the third time the fobs have switched. I love it.
