Hello:
I saw an effect where the magician presents 3 different coloured silks to a spectator. The spectator chooses the order in which the silks are tied together. The magician reveals his prediction (which has been on the table the entire time) and shows the audience that he tied the silks in the exact same order as the spectator. I enjoyed the simplicity of the effect and how it packs flat and plays big. Does anyone know the name of this effect where I could learn more about it? I'm guessing it might be in Rice's Encyclopedia of Silk Magic but don't want to make the purchase before I buy the book (although it is a book I will ultimately purchase). Thank you in advance for your response. Dan

The basic effect, called "As U Like It" by Stuart Judah, after Frederick Montague's "Westminster Wizardry", is found in the Rice Encyclopedia Volume 3, Chapter 18, P 1124, and the basic principle is also used in other effects therein. Professor Spellbinder also used the basic principle in his "Free Will 21st Century Silks" in The Wizards' Journal #20, in which the spectator gets to choose which color silk will be vanished and then reappear tied between the other two differently colored silks.

Silk King Studios website, has "As U Like It" available with silk, and also offer a bonus combination set so you can perform the famous "Sympathetic Silks" routine. Prices are fantastic.

I suspect that I will be placing an order for this effect shortly. Do you have any personal experience performing this effect? I'd welcome your insight into performing the effect and the reactions you received. I fell in love with the effect from the moment I saw it. The effect is visual and straightforward. Dan Dan

It is a mentalism trick wit silks, it can be played seriously or with a bit of Oops comedy. The choice is yours. Practice it well and think how you want to present it.
