This looks awesome!
Ad copy: "This hands-off miracle has a myriad of different versions taught. The spectator selects a card in the fairest possible manner. They deal down from a shuffled, borrowed deck and stop where they wish. The selected card is lost by the spectator further into the middle of the pack. Without touching the deck, the magician has complete control of the selected card and knows it’s exact location. The spectator names a number and the selected card is found at that number. I picked it up. As a CAAN, it's what I thought and it's great. It can be repeated right away with a different card at a different number. Alex teaches 3 nice variations in how to get into the reveal. He also teaches 3 ACAAN versions and unfortunately I was very disappointed with these handlings. The first two versions will require some slight "p** s**w" while the last felt limiting in their selection of the number and will require some sleights.
So as a CAAN (performer predicts position) I feel this is great as its very hands off, deceptive and clean, but was disappointed with the ACAAN presentations in which the spec chooses the number. I will use the CAAN as its practical and strong, but feel the price tag was a bit steep considering that I won't use the ACAAN versions, which was the main reason I purchased this. Still, this is one of the better CAAN's I have seen, especially since it can be done impromptu. |

Just a quick follow up to my comments above.... I came up with an idea on how to use this as an ACAAN that works a bit better for my needs (if you purchased this, feel free to PM me and I'll share it with you). So while the principle behind The Count isn't new, the way its applied is very clever and can help spark some good ideas.

Hello all!
Thank you for the post! 2 of my new releases are available at the blue crown, and also will be available very soon at your favorite shop! I'll write a few of my thoughts on here to help everyone It was a difficult thing thinking about the release of this particular effect. It's not your average release, and since its more of a principle it was SO hard to find away to shoot the trailer, and write the ad copy. I have lectured on this effect for a while now, so If you've seen my lecture chances are you've seen this effect. I loved ACAAN effects but I always found myself without a stack - or I would do it first with a stack, then shuffle the deck which meant I couldn't do it anytime anywhere. If you like a straight up clean ACAAN effect the one I would recommend above the rest is Asi Wind's version. With that being said, I was playing with alternative methods, stop tricks, can routines, etc. The idea behind this is super simple and I'm sure all of you know it - but its the routining that I feel really makes it. Here is the honest truth - the best scenario is what you see in the first version in the trailer. You do not touch the deck at all, and when it works its brilliant. I do however understand how you would be hesitant in performing this because you might not even know how it will turn out and what procedure you have to do! The surefire method is for you to name the number yourself, or the stop version. I understand that compared to THEM naming the number in our eyes (the eyes of the magician) its not as good, but all I can say is test it out and try it for yourself. I give an option on the video to do it with a number THEY name in a different way, which is the method I use mostly. Like I said in the video, I believe its even more powerful when you use a number that MEANS something to the spectator rather than a random number. You give the effect meaning, which otherwise would just be a happy coincidence. TuneHV - I appreciate the post! I tried to put as many possibilities as I performed with this effect - I realized that since there are a few different versions and ideas, not everyone will like ALL the versions but I figured to give more information than giving less - I'm glad you have your own thoughts on it and would love to hear them! I'm doing some interesting new things with the principal now as well - imagine having them count down and see what number their card as at. Now taking a second deck and cleanly counting down and finding a second spectators card in that exact position. Since you have the information of how the effect will end before you start there are really cool things you can do One thing I can say truly about this effect is that its a worker. I think the BEST part about it is that before the effect starts you know, and are in control of where the card will be at the end. Its easy and direct and you will have fun with it. It's not something that you'll throw in your drawer and not use. I am here to answer any questions you may have! Alex^ |

Great post Alex, love your honesty and most of all your effects are workers. I'll definately be picking this up.

I got it:
I came up with a different handling immediatly after watching the video. After 10 seconds of wording I had the pattern down and tried it. First reaction was "do that again!!". I did it again. Second reaction "whaaat". Yes this effect is easy as hell. You really don't need to do anything except for a little setup which is done in 5 seconds, even when the spectators are looking at the deck. I will use this effect a lot 10/10. |

So did anyone else get this? I do like the idea of the CAAN plot but most of them are either not very fair looking or has some weird procedure built into it.

Got this on Friday as a weekend toy. The principle was pretty much as I thought, and I would say worth a download. Although it won't be in my close up set, it's easy to do and nice to be able to do whenever you want to. With good presentation it will create a great moment. As an off the cuff acaan I would definitely recommend The Crusade, however this effect stands up on its own and also lends itself to many different presentations.

I totally agree with Charlie, I won't be putting this in my regular set. I would however perform this on those occasions where your asked to do something. It's worth a a purchase for sure. It's clever.but nothing new, just a cool way to use the concept.

Has this not been done before?
I have played with the idea before, but I would not have thought that you could actually release something like this as a single trick dvd/download. I am not saying that it is a bad trick, but the versions presented on the dvd leaves me cold. However, with some more work put into this, it could be turned into something much better than whats presented on the dvd. Again I am not saying that this is a bad trick, but it is one of those moments that I thought "Really? Did I just pay 18 bucks for this?" |
