I always have a heck of a time with the search engine here, so I will just ask a question I know has to have been talked about.

Dirty hands equal dirty ropes. Before figuring that piece of wisdom out, I have dirty ropes. SO, my question is... What have you found to be the best way to clean your ropes?

Thanks,

John

You can wash rope in your washing machine. You can dry it in your dryer. Use cold water. Try it out first to see the results.

Wash your hands before you handle the rope. Cleanlyness is next to Godlyness.

Good hygiene is very important in todays Disease problems.

Steven's Magic and Abbott's Magic sell rope spools in lengths of 50 yards. Just replace the rope.

Oxy Clean! This is the best stuff and it really whitens up the rope. I soak it in a warm water/ oxy clean solution for about 1/2 hour...if you want to really go nuts, let it soak overnight...then rinse with warm water...

Sometimes, for example, if you are doing something like Professor Cheer's Rope Trick, it is more practical to wash the props than to replace them. Washing does make them clean.

I looked them up...

Cleanliness is not next to Godliness.

Cleanliness is next to cleavage

and godliness is next to godless.

Yes, if there is anything I can't stand, it's cleavage that isn't clean.

Thanks for pointing that out.

Thanks for all the replies. I will remember to clean my cleavage often... and to throw my ropes at someone who is godly, and wash my hands before I tell someone how to wash theirs... or even that they should.

In the immortal words of Homer Simpson... "Woo Hoo!" or was that "DOH!"

Gee, I am surprised that no one really gave you the real steps necessary towards cleaner rope.

Here's what I do:

1. Soak the dirty rope in distilled vinegar. 30 minutes or longer.

2. Rinse the ropes. Soak them in rubbing alcohol. This removes the odor of vinegar. 30 minutes or longer.

3. Rinse the ropes. In order to remove the smell of alcohol, I find that a solution of salt (3 1/2 teaspoons to one gallon) abd water work quite well.

4. Dry the ropes in direct sunlight.

5. To remove the crystals of salt, soak the rope in vinegar.

6. Throw out the dirty rope and use new stuff.

The above steps work well, except in the case of the Pavel's Walking Knot Rope. Then the tip about Oxy-Clean works quite well.

Good luck,
