There is a magician who cleared out his collection and has it for sale at a local bookstore. I've taken pictures of the books, and the store is having an additional 20% off all items during Black Friday.
I'd love to get your guys $0.02 on any books that are a MUST (granted there is subjectivity) grab, AND a reasonable price. Example: Card Finesse - Max $50.00 Note: Ibidem is only Vol. 2 LINK TO PHOTOS: https://goo.gl/photos/N9GfXJtiZ7sF1W1G9 Thanks for the thoughts guys! I've already picked up a bunch of stuff. I'm interested in the two Aronson books and possible David Regal's Close-Up book (they're asking ~$30.00 before discount!). Cheers, Joel |

It really depends on the prices they are asking. seems like they are close to retail. I'm sure they've done some research.

David Regal's "Close-Up" was $30, and that was before the 20% off they're having for black Friday. I've seen retail at $55 +/- dollars for this, so I think $24 is pretty solid...
I can figure out the price and if it's reasonable, where I need the help of YOU guys is what books are worth getting. Thanks! |

From a collector's point of view: Eugene Burger's Strange Ceremonies may be worth something. Greater Magic and the Alex Elmsley book, of course. Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic. The Magic of Alan Wakeling. Wish I was there!

I see a lot of great books in those pics! If you can grab some of these at the prices I've listed (or less), it might be worth your while. These prices are rough and many of the books are worth paying a bit more for.
I agree with you on the Aronson books; just do a little searching to make sure you're getting them for less than retail (most of his books are not super hard to find). Mind, Myth & Magick is a major mentalism work by T.A. Waters and out of print; it would definitely be worth picking up if you can get it for $65 or less. M.I.N.T. Volume 1 by Marlo is a little hard to find (not sure about what a good price might be). The Magic of Alan Wakeling would be a steal around $50-75. Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic by Gardner $75. The hardbound volumes of The Jinx are hard to find; if the complete set is there for $125 or less I'd grab it. A lot of the books in those pictures are classics and out of print. If you're on the fence about any of them and it's available at a good price I'd just pull the trigger if you have the means. Even if you end up not wanting to keep it for your own library you will likely be able to get your money back in full when you resell it. That's my two cents. |

The Hartman Card Craft book and Twelve Who Died both are pretty expensive on the secondary market. Kaufman's books on Japanese magicians are good (including the yellow New York Magic Symposium book). Also the Fulves Slydini books, the Darwin Ortiz books, Marlo M.I.N.T books (Marlo In New Tops). Brainstorm in the Bahamas is not easy to find (but the content isn't as good as you might think, given the creators). The Mullica book has been selling for pretty good prices lately. Gaffed to the Hilt, especially if it has a set of gaffed cards (I don't think that particular edition came with them, but England would sell a set to folks anyway). Road Hustler and Caveney's Magicomedy. All of these books can go for prices well in excess of issue price.
And if you are just looking for good magic, the Lorayne books. |

So many good ones. Not sure of your budget, but quite a few of these can be found in PDFs at LLepub.com and lybrary.com.
I'd definitely get these: Our Magic Greater Magic Drawing Room Deceptions Secrets of Bro. John Hamman |

Sorry for the delay my magi friends!
The prices were WAY high - even with the 20% discount today. Below are asking prices BEFORE 20%: Greater magic: $180 Card Craft: $300 Alex Elmsley (@ volumes) = $600 Greater Magic: $200 Gaffs to the hilt: $75 with NO gaffs Martin Gardner Presents: $200 Effortless card magic: $65 If someone still wants something - let me know! Hi Elmsley,
Are you interested in these as a collector, or just in terms of the magic inside? I ask because I don't know a lot about the scarcity value of the books, but I have quite a few of these and could help you out with some advice as far as what's good if that's what you're after. I have to say, this is an absolute treasure trove you've found, and now I wish I lived in Ohio. Whenever my wife and I travel I always visit the local used bookstores, and look for magic books, and of course find nothing. But in my dreams I find a haul like what you've found, and the store owner happily sells me the books for $5 apiece.. Did you end up getting the Regal and Aronson? |

Looks like the sellers in that store did their homework. They realized that Card Craft is a difficult book to locate and expensive. I see one or two books I'm interested in, but what's the point? I can click on Amazon and Abe and find them there for roughly the same price. It's always a downer when you walk into a used book store--when you can find one--and discover a rare magic book with a high sticker price.
If I was in that store, I'd give priority to the books that are really hard to find that I would be interested in. And then fan out from there. Budgetary limitations will also factor in. I'd keep re-visiting this store on a regular basis when pocket money permits. That 20% discount is actually 14% because of the added 6% sales tax. |

While it would be great to have the printed copies of the Elmsley volumes, you can get both of them in e-book format for < $8.00 each at llepub right now. They're 60% off.

Have you worked through the Elmsley books, Thomas? I know people are going to tell me they're only $7.98 and I can't go wrong, but I actually spent over $100 at L&L during this sale, and I'm already dreading my wife finding that particular item on the credit card. I held back on Elmsley and also the Al Schneider one. I might crack and be forced to buy those ones soon, though...
