Is there a way to polish cards for packet tricks? I have recently some issues with a card trick that has gaf card but not RS or any sort of sticky stuff.
It is just that to do the move the cards, only a couple months old and just from practice are not fanning as nice or spreading to do the move.

I cant find what is causing the drag.
I am wondering if there is a way to polish the cards back to slippery. In the past I have used fanning powder on cards but if you ask me, the power feels like it has a little grab to it and does not last long if you are wiping off.

The card set is still "clean" looking so I just think the spread lost some of its finish. It is Chameleon Backs. Says it is make in USA with Original Bicycle Cards but I wonder if that is the same quality.

It would be fun to see if anyone has other methods than fanning powder.

Thanks

If the cards are losing their quality, the best option is probably to buy a new set. I'm not sure what packet trick you're referring to, but if it's a packet you purchased, try practicing with normal cards. Once you have the moves down, use the actual cards you purchased. If you're practicing with the specific packet effect every day, the cards will collect dirt and oil from your skin.

Always handle cards with clean hands when possible. It will extend the life of your cards.

I find this to be an ongoing mystery (problem) with packet tricks. I have read here on the Café that when packet tricks cards are produced, they are printed in low quantities, on different printing presses than normal cards. Thus causing some sort of quality issues.
I have recently started using packet tricks that I can make up myself with regular decks. I got tired of having to re purchase tricks, which usually included another DVD.

Even though I live in a very humid climate, my regular decks do not seem to ever have this issue. Only packets.

For instance, the Royal Scam cards that come with the DVD only last me a fraction of the time as do the ones I make up myself.

I have tired to clean the cards, powder the cards, sand the cards, nothing seems to help once they get sticky.
After much soul searching about a signature, I decided not to have one.

I recently had this problem with a wild card set. I read somewhere on the Café that you could use soap. I found someone on youtube who explained how you can "soap" the cards. I made a light X mark on the front and back of each card with a dry bar of soap and then riffled and shuffled the cards. They work well now and its been a couple of weeks. The type of soap I used must have been OK. Not sure if any bar of soap will work so I would recommend you try out the technique on some cheap cards before trying it on the packet trick cards.

I recently brought out a packet effect that I had not done for several years and the cards were not cooperating when manipulated. Taking a 100% silk handkerchief, I buffed both sides of the cards with the silk and now the cards are behaving beautifully.

Hi Powermagic. I got a tip on this issue from Gary Plants and it is to rub the cards firmly on a clean surface made with felt which is attached to a board. This way you can "shine" by rubbing the cards and remove any grime or residue that can accumulate. Anyway, that's my two cents.. I hope it helps.

Freezing your cards is supposed to bring them to a better condition. I tried it once and it kinda worked but the cards got a bit softer

Hbenod, since this was addressed elsewhere on the Café I wasn't going to mention it again.
Since you did I want to mention this idea was given to me by Neil Lester...Cards by Martin.
Try it, it works.

Thanks it did work with the felt. Not sure how long it will last and now that the windter is hear and dryer weather, I don't know if that also plays a factor.

I don't think there is anythign wrong to rementioning something in a different area as not everyone knows the keywords to search for or reads the entire Café. Just a link to the topic is enough but I would not be afraid to mention into otherwise.

One does also wonder if how one buffers makes it more or less effective. That is circular vs up and down .Or straight swipes but only left to right on the short ends.

I am not sure if it is the material type or the grain that polishes. Maybe felt than silk . If you ever sand out scratches you start with a heavier grit and go up to smaller grits.
Felt is courser than the silk so maybe felt for cleaning and silk for polishing.
If there is a link to a full discussion on this, please direct me in the right location.

The cards are working now, I don't see any difference in shine or condition but they are not sticking. Too bad they cant have a nano coating applied after that. Smile

This afternoon, I used felt to buff a couple of old decks of Bees and am pleased with the results.
I feel more like I do now than I did before.

Glad it worked for you Russ. Did you glue it down on a board? This really makes the job easy.

I used self-adhesive squares (about 12x12 inches) that I got at the fabric store a while back for another project. Peel off the backing, put on whatever you like. I used an old scrap of formica counter.

Fanning powder also helps with sticky cards. I may try the felt though, first I have heard of that.

I'm interested if you are using felt cloth, or is felt board? I'd like to use a felt board if anyone has found that to work. I'm also wondering, what does everyone think of sprinkling cornstarch on the felt?
