I had a lovely gig today, a wedding. As I finished someone distributed colouring books and pencils. I decided to do the pencil up the nose bit before I left. So I grabbed a pencil, forgetting that it is not a bit I ever do.
I pushed the pencil up my nose instead of doing the clever bits. It hit an artery and I struck the motherlode. Blood sprayed out in a merry fountain. The children, needless to say, were delighted. An unexpected bit of spectacle when they thought the show was over. I was less delighted. I will not be doing that bit in the future.

Sorry for laughing, Tony. Ouch!

Oh man! I feel your pain.
I almost cut my finger off when a car axel fell on it and peeled it open. No health insurance so I tied a string round it till it had no feeling then stitched it together with carpet thread.

Yeah. Don´t do anything remotely related to a coloring book.

Had a card in the balloon routine which used 3 balloons, each on a stick. The payoff had an arrow ride up the last stick to break the balloon. The thing released prematurely & went clear through the fleshy part of my hand, below my little finger. If you want the trick, you can find it in a land fill in Pennsylvania.

A fun thing to do during a rope routine is cut that bit of 'webbing' between your thumb and index finger. It also likes to bleed profusely without stopping throughout the duration of your show.

Animal balloons and elecrtical tape can be used to wrap the offending part (cutting off blood flow) if you're in the middle of a show.
Then you put on a pair of black gloves and just continue. Once I jumped a fence to do the Run A Round and impaled my hand on a sharp barb at the top. (I know I told that custodian several times to leave that gate unlocked) So I ran up the isle with my coat wrapped around my hand. It was the last trick.

Although this didn't happen to me it was two of my assistants.
Both of them were moving an illusion all the way upstage so it could rest against the back wall. The problem was that the rear curtain hid the fact that the stage was a foot away and there was a three foot drop. They both fell half way into the gap with the illusion following. For the test of the night one of them had a limp on the right side and the other on the left. A lady came up after the show and complemented me on using disabled people, that I was a nice man. (There ya go Michael another fine story from the past)

So Tony
Did you heal? I'm assuming you needed a few stitches. The nose and upper lip (philtrum) area is one of the most tender parts of an anatomy.

What an Encore! Sometimes, after I've been paid, I will do quickly do the coloring book routine for the children. I would try that next time Tony!

Until the next time. Ken, that's a great suggestion for a follow-up. Magic red...

Tony! I should have gotten back to this thread sooner. I plead Holidays!
You scared the @#$% out of me. "Hesselbach's Triangle" is a "weak spot" (non medical, layman's description) in the nasal passage. (About an INCH from the BRAIN!!!) I knew a lot of old carnys who did the "blockhead" bit. I won't go into detail, as you are aware, we don't tip the gaffs, here, but, for Pete's sake, BE CAREFUL! IMO, You're one of the very few guys who really understand, about KIS MIF!!! Dick

The funny thing Dick is that I can do the blockhead bit. I just wasn't trying to do it that day. I won't be doing that bit again in a hurry.
Jake, you are right. As Mr Punch I would have fitted right in.
