The TKG creator asked me to say thanks you all for your patience.
Good news for those who have shown such interest recently, the full release is now ready and I thought you might want to check out the website:
Theknowinggame.wix.com/witchhazel

All details, pics, video trailer are there. Please refer to it as "Witch Hazel", although as the linked site explains it has an official name, not to be posted in a searchable format.

What I love about Steve's work is that you can tell he takes time to not only research the backgrounds and history to his routines, but also to properly develop the story lines and make them come alive.

With TKG I was actually quite freaked out by the prop, and was superstitious enough to actually wonder if I should have the object in my house based on this game that the kids played, and the gruesome debts some of the "losers" had to pay. It wasn't until I sent him an email voicing my concern that he confessed to the ruse and assured me he had manufactured the tale. Color me naive.

Yet, when I read the background to this prop and effect, I began to be sucked in again. The story is so plausible. So believable...maybe this time, it is real.

Agreed, and IMHO what makes for exceptional back stories and effects in the "bizarre" storytelling genre (as Steve does so well) is to base it on 90-95% truth and then it's that remaining % that is "killer"...!

After receiving WITCH HAZEL, I was prompted to write to the creator:

"I wanted to let you know that I received WITCH HAZEL today and it was everything I expected and more! You really packaged it carefully and it arrived safely. The effect was showing as I removed it from the burlap bag. Eerie! I also wanted to compliment you on the 1930's paper with the child's poem on one side and the ledger entries on the other that I received as a bonus for being one of the early purchasers. The level of detail reinforces the provenance of the item.

The PDF sent separately has a wealth of extra information and pictures that can be used along with the youtube video advertising WITCH HAZEL.

All in all, a very worthy entrant for the person who wants to show something special.

Thank you for the time and effort spent on this effect. Please let me know if you decide to create another one."

Easily one of the good effects to have. I will have fun with this one.

Received mine today as well. Outstanding, and just like Steve's first release - Th* Kn*wing G*me - Witch Hazel is totally believable as a legitimate artifact.

The workings to this are simple...it's the stories and routines that will make this shine. After I followed the basic handling and actually worked with the prop awhile, I see that it will totally fly and be quite a disturbing and unnerving effect.

Steve crafted the routines and build-up beautifully, so once the jar is demonstrated several times using just the "yes" and "no" questions, the heaven and hell portion is chilling. Steve has even built in an "out" in case anyone guesses the workings...and it's a smart out...almost making the effect creepier.

My favorite bit in Steve's story is his explanation in case anyone asks why hell is up and heaven is down (or you can volunteer the information)...

If you lived through these storms, hell came from above.

Brilliant.

I don't get paid until next Friday, but it will probably be sold out by then. I wish we could put one on reserve.

This might have to move to the top of my Christmas List! I love the storyline behind it.

I received my Witch Hazel the other day. It has a nice, authentic look and feel to it. Though not specifically mentioned in the manual, reset is pretty easy, as you'll discover after playing around with it a bit.

I'm thinking it might be good to have an ungimmicked version that could be switched in and out. If I were a spec, I'd be itching to play with Witch Hazel to see if I could make the magic repeat itself. What do the rest of you think?

The little girl pictured in the manual has quite a striking face. What if she caused the dust storms psychokinetically, either wittingly or unwittingly? Just a thought. Smile

One's presentation and audience management will eliminate the need for this. . .

You mean, like, hold it out of reach if someone at the seance table makes a grab for it? Smile

I would insist upon a participant to play with it!
Like we should do with all our magic ...
