So I have a pretty simple question I think. In re-reading Ted Lesley's dissertation on the tear in paramiracles, I was wondering what some people might do if there isn't a lighter around. The handling requires that you do the steal and light the remaining pieces (in essence, destroying the evidence). If I can't use a lighter, what do you recommend I do (besides a PCT)?
Another question: Questions 3 and 4: "Have you looked outside this person's window," etc. I feel like these two questions are sort of out of place. I'll eleborate. I was doing it this afternoon as part of an act and one of the people afterwards asked why I would ask a question about a window. And she was confused as to what window I was referring to (like which part of the house). I'm not sure if I am making myself clear. In summary, I feel like questions 3 and 4 don't make much sense since questions 1,2,5 and 6 seem to be along the same lines with 3 and 4 being off to a tangent of some sort. Hopefully someone would understand what I am talking about. PM me if you want. |

David,
For the very reason you mentioned above, i.e. not having a lighter, is the motivation to move toward something like Peek Performance by Richard Busch. As to the questions, I feel these are to be tailored to your situation and style of performance. It also may depend on what you are asking to be written down. A name will elicite different questions than say an object or place. Regards, - Nicodemus

I thought about stuff in Peek Performances. The part I love about the Paramiracles script is that you can steal the piece and actually read it at your leisure (or even study it if it is illegible). This is best done when the rest of the evidence has been destoryed already so that people think that the written word is out of the picture.

The reason Lesley asks those questions is because he has someone print the name and the place they live. He then asks about their house and devines both the name and the location.

Hmmm, I guess that makes sense. I don't know why I had trouble understanding that part of the text. Maybe I was sleepy.
Actually I realized my error when I presented it last night, I told the person to write down just the name of someone they knew. Not the place...that caused the confusion in the suggested patter. |

David, just to add my two bent cents. When performing CT with a person's name you don't need to have them also write the place.
Just be sure you ask for the name of a CLOSE FRIEND (possibly still alive, if you don't want to transform the effect in a L&D Test!) instead of the name of SOMEONE THEY KNEW... BIG DIFFERENCE, if you think about it! Paolo

Yea, I usually do not perform CT with a place. It is part of the Lesley routine though...and it works quite well with his suggested patter. His dissertation I think covers why he says, "someone you know" as opposed to "close friend". If you read it, you will understand why.

David, sorry but I was not referring myself to Lesley patter and routine. I was just giving you a more general rule of what worked for me (and believe me when I say that in years of performance I've almost experimented any CT routine out there! LOL!)
When you say a CLOSE FRIEND you still can do the bit of "looking out of the window / trees / cars" because you have a great probability that your subject has been more than once in the house of his CLOSE FRIEND. That's just what my experience did teach me but you're welcome to it. Paolo
