I received the following message attached to an order for a Gift of the Vanitas coffin box the other day. Of course, it made my year, but also encouraged me to keep in mind bizarre Magic can be life affirming as well as dark and spooky.
"I discovered your products after browsing FB. I was just released from an acute suicide/depression program Wednesday and I am going into the VA hospital for PTSD treatment on December 10th. This box really spoke to me. Life/Death balance in between. I plan to use it as a daily visual reminder that life and death must have each other to exist and that I should focus on the life part. Plus, if I can use it to entertain others then so much the better. " I'll respect the buyer's anonymity here, but he told me he is going public with his story to help others. After nearly 50 years of Magic, I got into the bizarre a couple of years ago because of the tremendous creativity I found on these threads. And it has helped me to realize Magic is an opportunity to delve in the big issues of life that really matter. Marc |
