During your performance you ask via a show of hands who believes in aliens or alien abductions. Requesting for someone who held their hand up to join you, an experiment in remote viewing is suggested. The participant is seated into a chair and put into a relaxed state of mind. They are then asked to imagine themselves experiencing an alien abduction which you guide them through. They start to recall details of the event with great detail. Upon completing their journey they are asked to open their eyes and also the envelope they have been holding the entire time. Inside the envelope they find a police report, it is a witness statement from an unknown person who claims to have been abducted by aliens. The details of the witness statement match those of the participant’s imaginary journey with pinpoint accuracy. Is this proof of remote viewing, or has the participant already experienced an alien abduction and is only now remembering their encounter?
This is one of my favourite effects I have created. It will be available from myself today and Lybrary and Penguin Magic within the next few days. For more information please contact me here or via email. Kind regards Art

After a one-time read through, I can see myself using this.
It has a great heritage (effects from where it takes inspiration) and it carries on the baton perfectly. In all effects there is a trade-off between how clean vs how amazing it looks. In this the trade-off is minimal. But just to be super sure, different methods are explained. I'll report more when I've played around with it some more. Steve |

The description doesn't sound like remote viewing but more like the person is picking up impressions of someone else's account of a scene. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Price Man, Price ?
Art, it sounds like "Psychometry" (paranormal) of sorts, with participant holding envelope. But, I like the idea! ~G

Not sure if the ad copy is accurate on this. I think that if the performer takes the envelope from the spectator, then it will reduce the "clean" factor of the effect. But, it is never mentioned in the ad copy that the performer touches the envelope (in fact, it implies the performer is hands off). Can someone reassure me that in fact this is a super clean effect that does not rely on touching the envelope?

Looks interesting, especially with the new X-FILES mini-series on the horizon.
Is the police report included? |

There are three methods, the main method is 100% hands off. You NEVER touch the envelope or its contents. The other two methods are slightly more hands on.
The police report is included, in fact two copies are included for those who don't want an English one. Hope this information is useful Kind regards Art

Art,
If the first method is 100% hands off, then why have any other methods? One reason would be if there are some trade-offs that mitigate the impact of this routine. Can you let us know what those trade-offs may be? Thanks! Kevin Quote:

I provide multiple methods to give the reader more choice.
Obviously I don't want to explain the main method on a public forum, please pm me and I can discuss this with you in more detail Kind regards Art

I think this release does not have favorable opinions...if notable mentalists received review copies, but they are refusing to utter even a few positive words, it does not bode well for this piece.

Well, I finished reading this ebook last week, but have been so busy with a few other projects, that I haven't had the state of mind to sit and write a thoughtful review.... But I do now. Here we go:
To start off, the premise is very creative, and would work well in any sort of weird or paranormal performance. Personally, I wouldn't use this premise, as it doesn't suit my style, however, the methods described are incredibly versatile, so applying the workings and mechanics of the effect to other premises is a piece of cake. There are some great method combinations from other creators, while maintaining that "Art Vanderlay" feel. The way the individual pieces of the method work together are bordering on genius - i.e.: you can get a VERY clean, nearly 100% accurate performance with each method described (he has a couple in there), and he goes into great detail about how to get the information you want. What I would use this for, is to guide someone through a hidden memory of a dream we shared, or as a spectator-reads-the-performer, or combine with Bill Montana's "The Bridge", to have the participant dream of the contents of the envelope. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Art's combination of methods and subtleties in this piece have become (due to how well they fit together), as a whole, an single invaluable tool to be implemented in a plethora of other routines. And of course, if you do perform the strange and paranormal/urban legend stuff, you could use this to have the participant "remotely view" (remotely = distance of location AND time) instances of werewolf sightings, Sasquatch encounters, etc., and have everything confirmed in a police report at the end. All in all, I really liked it, and would highly recommend this piece. Best, Tom Phoenix |
