. . . proofreading ad copy before it goes out and offends the eyes and ears of countless millions of human beings.
I'd be a bazillionaire within a couple of weeks, even if I specialized only in the American (English-speaking) market. There was just an Ikea commercial on television in which the announcer said, "Be a food paparazzi." Sigh. "Paparazzi" is plural; the singular is "paparazzo." |

Similarly, I've thought that the business of writing for magicians might be profitable. Countless effects I've purchased over the years have been so poorly written, being almost impossible to figure out. Writing is all about being concise, clear and understood. With proper spelling and punctuation.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

I have a neighbor who proof reads adverts but he is a legal expert rather than a grammar expert; He is an ex trending standards officer and also a top expert on forgery and counterfeiting. He works from home and the companies send him a copy of their advert and he just rewords it to conform to the law and sends it back. It’s a good business he has.
I read a book in the reference library on counterfeiting that he wrote and I wanted to call him as an expert witness and to my surprise I found out that he lived just around the corner from us. With adverts the fellow is like a chess expert who can instantly recognize patterns and moves as if not thinking, instinctively and quickly. He is one who knows, he has seen it all before so to speak.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

The Rothschild is one. Forbes will list Benjamin de Rothschild where ever the Rothschild wants.

My contention is: Even if not designed to elicit imediete craving experience, the advertisement is designed to imbed a hook in your attention. There's the beef.

But everybody's going to write us telling us the word is paparazzi, who are we to argue with them? Everybody knows Ricardo Montalban as the "guy who did the car commercial," but did you know he was mispronouncing a word? And that he knew it? When he was offered the Chrysler spokesman job. His first take was talking about "Rich CorinTHIan leather." The director stopped him and said the word was pronounced "CoRINthian." He responded; "I'm from the country, I know how the word is pronounced." The director stated that the Chrysler people wanted "CoRINthean" and Ricardo sighed and said it the wrong way for years.

The pronunciation on this ad really bothers me. Wasn't ANYBODY checking when they recorded it? To me, it sounds like he's saying:
Hod it! Come with me. New Dannu Oikos Trippo Zero is my go-to protein snack. Yep, this Greek nafa yogu packs fifteen grams of protein punch. Unlike some odde protein snacks, it has zero adde suga, zero artificial sweeteners, and zero fat. Naw, man. New Dannon Oikos Trippo Zero. Officia Yogut of the NFL. |

Why not try communicating in English instead of only ridiculous references only you seem to connect?

S2000magician, perhaps you can help me. When a sentence ends with a quote, some people put the period after the closing quotation mark, as in:
"They are paparazzi". Other people put the period before the closing quotation mark, as follows: "They are paparazzi." Which is correct? |

In the USA, periods and commas go inside quotation marks, but it's different in the UK.
"Torture doesn't work" lol
Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley. "...as we reason and love, we are able to hope. And hope enables us to resist those things that would enslave us." |
