He said he taught the linking finger rings routine because there are so many people out there doing it so badly that they're doing a disservice to magic, and from a love-of-magic standpoint he wanted to help fix that.

This time I simply missed the omission of the Bill in Lemon. So, yes I will just apologize (on behalf of everyone at Penguin Magic) and hope that you'll just let it go. After all, it was my own ****ty d*** mistake! Sorry. I've alerted our team and the copy should be edited soon. |

Since Scott Alexander appears to be reading this thread, I'd like to say thank you for putting in the creative work to perform these holiday variety show lectures each year. You teach a lot about showmanship and stagecraft, you teach an appreciation for the classics, you teach technique as well -- and on top of that you write a pile of comedy bits and songs. Thanks for the whole package, Scott.
And thanks also to Dan Harlan for hosting these lectures throughout the year. It's a harder job than most of us understand, but watching other hosts at Penguin and elsewhere has strengthened my appreciation for Dan's work. |

It was a very good lecture and a very good show to watch.
Scott Alexander is a very good showman. The gimmick for the salt trick is clever ;-) |

Very impressive; Very pretty! (the underlying method can also be found in Murday's Link! (also worth buying), but this application of that older method was new to me, and put me on the edge of my seat till he explained it). Further, Scott showed some clever ways to do the 3 ring linking/unlinking effect right after borrowing all three rings(there is a proverbial "*" here, but you will need to see his explanation to see what that "*" represents). His routining also made the links look VERY fair, even to the spectators that lent the rings. As I posted before, it was this 3 ring link/unlinking and his egg bag routine that I would add to my next show, with pride. John

Does it show a full performance of shoe business 2.0?

As far as I know it was the full performance. It is also explained, but there are props that you would need to buy, or buy the whole package (~$90, which seems very expensive to me)
To me, this was just cute, he referred to it as a "joke" (meaning funny, not pathetic). The basic method is old, but he's updated it by using "Siri", and it uses the same "instructor" ploy used in bandana. As I've already posted, I like the other effects muuuuuuch more. UPDATE: I just looked at SB2 on Penguin. His audience in that demo got better reactions than he did for his "PM Live" performance, and it looked better than what I saw on PML; not fundamentally different, just seemed to go over better (maybe that's what happens when you do a trick that involves a very simple/old method, and I would assume that most knew exactly how it is done.
