I am looking for a nice set of Billiard balls/Multiplying balls, to upgrade from the cheap set I have. I was looking at vernet, but I came across the fakini balls, and now I am not sure. Does anybody have any suggestions? The most important thing for me is shell fit. Thanks.

Michael Baker gives two pieces of advice that are well worth heeding. "Nuff said!

When Frank Radtke made his first set of multiplying "billiard balls", he carried them to Abbott's Get Together in a velvet lined wooden case.
Bill Baird (real name Kretchmer) picked up a ball and SH*LL, (Colton, note that last word! --this is an "open forum") and tried them. Bill was a pro. who featured the "XXXing" balls in his act. Bill grabbed the box, and simply said: "HOW MUCH?"

And there are different sizes too.
Buy the one you would be most comfortable with. |

Denny has many Fakini products--billiard balls and golf balls in different sizes--different colors--and different effects (e.g. "Diminishing Billiard Ball/Diminishing Golf Ball"; "Giant Golf Ball Finale"; "Flash Four Billiard Ball/Golf Ball Finale." Just about anything a billiard ball manipulator could want.

Heyi Kalispell!
The late Meyer Kessler, aka Carl Sharpe, aka, CARL BALLANTINE, had a neat routine for the DIMINISHING GOLF BALL. If this is of interest, lemme know. I'm quite sure that I have it in my "ball file". The "Flash Four FINALE", that Sonny just mentioned was published in PHOENIX, and also in one of Karrell Fox's books. (called 'BALL O MATIC') CLAYTON RAWSON had a delightful kid routine for a simplified "xxxing" ball routine, in "HUGARD'S MAGIC MONTHLY" (in the '40s, I think). I was one of Frank Radtke's (FAKINI) first customers. I still have a few left of Laurie Ireland's g/balll sh*lls. (the metal ones). I wrote up my ball routine in my book. It uses a few basic flourishes, Percy Abbott's PERPETUAL BALLS, and Bill Williston's VISIBLE penetrating ball thru silk, and Karrell's BALLOMATIC. Years ago, the "kicker" extra finish was the WILLMAN ball. (No More...can't get Willman any more.) UNLESS YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC NEED FOR COLORED BALLS, I SUGGEST >>WHITE<< BALLS (VISIBILITY).

I'm curious as to why Ireland's original multiplying golf balls had a criss-cross pattern rather than the more familiar dimple pattern of "real" golf balls.
I bought one of the first Fakini golf ball sets from Earl Edwards's Magic Shop. IIRC, the first multiplying balls that Frank came out with was the golf ball set--not the "billiard balls." But I always thought the shell of the set I got from Earl in the early 70's is a little too thick compared with, say, the metal shell of the Ireland golf balls. Has the shell on the Fakini balls gotten any thinner? ----- Sonny

I can't answer that question for you Sonny since I don't own the older Fakini golf ball set. I do have the current version and the shell looks fine to me.

The Frank Radtke golf ball sh*l is a trifle thicker than the Laurie Ireland sh*l, but, I've never had any problem with it.
I admit that I dropped the "XXXing balls from the working act over 50 years ago. I still use a ball and sh*l, but in a different trick.

Bond Lee is a master of the Billiard Balls, looking forward to getting a set.
Sadly, not available until January, 2017. Green is not available, dang! |

Any chance of Bond manufacturing a larger size? I'm using the Cardini 2 1/8" size and stepping down to 1.7 would be way too drastic of a change for me. But am curious to handle the product though...they look great.
