Just got my copy of PPF yesterday afternoon, soon as I opened it...the cards instantly felt great in my hands. Everything is VERY well made. The method is great with awesome teaching by R-Lax. He does a full performance as he's teaching with the camera looking directly at the cards the entire time.
Goes over more than enough to know this effect inside and out. I own a few effects from R-Lax, but this one....this is something special. This effect holds its own league, the method isn't the wheel reinvented or anything...the effect outcome even kinda reminded me of the one effect "Cataclysm by Brian Caswell" from a few years back. Completely different methods, but the objectives are almost the same to a degree. I've never owned anything with tarot cards, never once in my 38 years had even the slightest interest too. Nor have I ever gotten an actual tarot card reading. But I read ALL the reviews on Penguin, did my homework on the Café. Even looked on eBay to see if anyone was selling their copy....but my search turned up noting. That fact alone told me one thing, that NOBODY wants to get rid of their PPF. Must mean its a darn good trick if not one person who's actually bought it....is selling it. So I jumped down the rabbit hole once again, hoping for the best, but expecting....ya know the rest. But behold R-Lax comes thru with one of the best effects I've purchased so far in 2016. I would never had thought that a tarot card effect would be in that top 5 of best effects. I'm more of a coin guy anyway...so this is a nice break from that field of magic, and not just another gimmicky card trick....but a tarot card trick. Even if you already own this trick and are kinda like not sure if you should perform it cuz of the whole tarot card thingy, do what R-Lax does....try it on some of the tipsy ladies. I'll bet this effect out of an entire routine of awesome effects... will stand out the most...to females at least. There's just something about tarot cards, and females that go hand and hand. Another one of life's Rubik's Cube puzzles. Thanks to RC for the awesome review, appreciated sir! And hats off too R-Lax for the outstanding effect. Well done sir!

Appreciated JackMagic! Thanks!
Here's a thought and a question combined--Has Rick Lax ever put out anything titled "Ri-Lax" as in (Relax)? If not he should do something off the word play of his name. I like to imagine what kind of effect he would possibly come up with for something of that name. Could be great! Last: Can I please PM anyone, or even Rick himself to ask about a specific shuffle he teaches on PPF? I'm not sure I have it down yet, and still feel just a hair confused in regards to this certain shuffle. I tried re-watching the lesson more than a few times on that part...however I would really like to just ask someone to help guide in me in the proper direction if that's okay? Would appreciate anyones assistance on this please. Thanks in advance for your time.

MagicBrady--thanks for your PM insight. Well needed indeed!
I was able to get double insight from both MB, and from Mr. PPF himself--Rick Lax emailed me back after contacting him via his website ricklax.com Not only is this effect insanely good--but the creator of it himself actually took the time to email me back and breakdown what I needed to know move for move. My respect and admiration for RL has tripled--10 fold. Rick Lax--thank you so much for replying back to my email!

Some very thoughtful comments here - as well as what I now realize to be a degree of quibbling that seems endemic to this board...
I think the effect looks great on the previews - for myself though, I would want to use it as a kind of a bizarre piece - is the effect to "tricky" to be presented in that manner or would the proper presentation elevate it above a cleverly art directed card prediction? |

This arrived today. first impressions......absolutely brilliant ! The tarot cards are beautiful and a touch of class. The trick itself is pretty simple to do so you can concentrate on presentation. I do a lot of card stuff, but this is something different to the regular stuff. Just very very happy and gobsmacked with the quality of this. Perfect for late night dinner parties by candlelight.

Good post. I did this today and it went over extremely well. I think one of the reasons is it's all about the spectator.
Beautiful cards. And, it's something different as Craigers said. Robert |

Guys - I love this effect, but am running into some issues regarding maintenance of the cards to where the effect remains reliable. The issue I’m running into is not covered on the video instructions. I have an idea of how to fix it, but first wanted to see if anyone has done this enough to where they’d like to compare notes. Maybe you’ve experienced the same thing and found a solution that works already. Please PM me if you’d like to discuss further. After that, maybe we can start a discussion downstairs. Thanks.

I have this trick and my cards seem to need some more roughing fluid or wax on the cards.. where should I place the wax on the cards?

Has anyone have any experiences they'd be willing to share with rejuvinating these cards when they stop sticking?
I really like the effect and the aesthetic of the actual cards, so I don't want to mess around and risk ruining them if there's a 'best practice' based on people's experimentation with roughing fluid, wax, etc. It's the kind of deck that would look even BETTER as it aged, in my opinion. Nothing spookier than old tarot cards. |
