I posted in your other thread, but basically Google Dan Fleshman, Close-Up Magic and contact him.
I you are forced to get bigger rings than you want, check out UDAY for solidly made rings at a fair price. The single is heavy enough for a great stage Ring and Rope. I use Uday's 6" rings for parlor and Library shows where the Ninjas just wouldn't show big enough. I can still do my Ninja routine (but not as delicately LOL). Good luck! -Mary Mowder |

They seem a little large in diameter compared to the ninja rings but I could be wrong.
There's no price that I can see. Who knows about the thickness/thinness which makes a difference if you're expecting one thing and getting another.

According to one dealer I contacted, they are approximately 5.9 inches in diameter. They sell for $75 and are available in either gold or silver. The thickness can be better judged from the video than from the photos.
I think these might have potential. They are available from Vanishing Inc. and The Magic Warehouse. |

Too big for my liking. I've tried rings a bit larger than ninja rings and didn't like them.
Not only do I prefer the feel of smaller rings but.... where are you going to put rings that big when strolling?

Ive done some size research and its all over the board. The Messado rings are "smaller" than Ninja Rings, but I cant find Ninja Rings anywhere and don't know their diameter. I also couldn't find a diameter on Matthew Garrets Close Up rings. 6" just sounds to big, so I would lean toward 5" or smaller...I see some "learning and practice" sets at 5". Anyone know the diameters of Shoots Ninja, Messado, or Garret rings?
The top section look to be performance quality rings; the bottom section would be for training and practicing. Any comments of whether I should "train" on a size larger or smaller than I would eventually use in performance? ?.?? - Ninja Rings (appear only avail at a Shoot lecture) ?.?? - Joshua Messado Rings ?.?? - Matthew Garret - Close Up Linking Rings 6.00 - Raymond Long - The Rings (Silver, made by Jieli) 6.00 - Uday's Linking Rings (6" #8) 5.00 - Royal Magic - 5" Linking Rings by Royal Magic 5.00 - Vincenzo DiFattas- Chinese Linking Rings, 5 inch 4.00 - 4 Inch Close-Up Linking Rings 3.94 - Tenyo Chinese Linking rings (T-70) |

Mary indicated above that the Ninja's are 4.5".
I think the empire rings are the same (or very close).

The Garrett rings are just a shade under 4.5".

Looks like the range is 4.5" to 6." If I want to eventually perform with 4.5" is it better to learn and practice with larger (5") or smaller (4") rings?

Can anyone comment on the quality of the Garret rings? Are Shoot's Ninja Rings that much better ?

When I lost my original Ninjas last winter, I bought 5-inch substitutes from my local dealer. The larger rings were totally unsatisfactory for me as I could not grasp them in the cradle grip required for the Ogawa routine. I then searched Japan-based magic dealers on the Web and located a dealer offering the original rings. Although the site was in Japanese, I had no trouble communicating in written English and purchasing with a Visa card. I do not recall the shop name. I do recall that the price was uninflated. The rings arrived by US Mail five days later.
I modified the routine to eliminate the need for a table because I wanted a routine that would work everywhere, including surrounded. I also wanted audience participation so I included one of Shoot's spectator unlinks and added the Kim Silverman unlink and his associated link, which is included in Shoot's second DVD. I keep the rings in performance order in a very thin silk bag with a drawstring. I carry the bagged rings in my right rear trousers pocket. The slickness of the silk makes it easy to remove the bag for a performance. When I finish the routine the rings are in performance order. I place them in their bag and pocket them, ready to go. I never call them Ninja because I do not want audiences to search the Web looking for Ninja Rings.

I first preformed the linking rings 1 week after getting them. I wasn't planning to, but I was working a club, people were really drunk and the lighting was bad, so I figured why not. I wasn't expecting much - I'd never seen the linking rings live at that point and wasn't sure how fooled people would be, but hoped their drunkenness would stop them figuring out.
Not only did I get insane reactions from the patrons, but ?I got a round of applause from the bar staff who were standing BEHIND me!!!! It also instantly gathered a crowd without me saying a word. From then on, I have always included it when strolling. Mine just goes in my side jacket pockets or my back trouser pockets, depending on what else I perform with. I currently perform with 4" rings - any bigger would be a struggle to carry. They are a cheap set from a local shop, but a strong routine is more important than quality rings. One day I will buy seamless ones, but the fact that you hand out a linked pair and allow them to try and unlink it rules out the seams anyway. I've added lots of extra fooling moves since I started, but a basic routine works just as well and with lots of audience engagement, is always a favourite. Look at Pop Haydn's 4 ring routine and think how you could structure a close up version of that. Btw, I performed this yesterday at a ball for university maths students and no one asked to see the rings and it was frequently requested to perform. |

In my routine, the spectators are constantly touching and handling the rings throughout, so I never have the issue of people wanting to "Examine them" because they already have all routine. I combine this with "Ninja Plus" by Matthew Garrett to seal the deal if anyone suspects there is a gap or separation in the rings. I never... I mean NEVER perform a gig without bringing the rings with me. My favorite piece of magic!

Does anyone have the diameter of the Messado rings or Matthew Garret rings?
I've picked up a set of the 4" rings to learn on and practice. It looks like the only way to get the original Ninja Rings is at a Shoot Ogawa lecture. So far, I like the smaller size and am still trying to get mearurements on the "better" rings available The top section look to be performance quality rings; the bottom section would be for training and practicing. 4.50 - Ninja Rings (4.50" exterior, abouit 4.25" interior) (appear only avail at a Shoot lecture) ?.?? - Joshua Messado Rings ?.?? - Matthew Garret - Close Up Linking Rings 6.00 - Raymond Long - The Rings (Silver, made by Jieli) 6.00 - Uday's Linking Rings (6" #8) 5.00 - Royal Magic - 5" Linking Rings by Royal Magic 5.00 - Vincenzo DiFattas- Chinese Linking Rings, 5 inch 4.00 - 4 Inch Close-Up Linking Rings 3.94 - Tenyo Chinese Linking rings (T-70) |

While I think this list is a great reference, does it actually matter what size they are? You should try different sizes and figure out which you like best (as one would do for any tool), rather than picking a size based on the routine.
I have a hard time imagining any of the routines would work significantly differently with rings a little bit larger or smaller. And if you really want to be complete, I've also seen rings go as big as 10" http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S7325, and probably even bigger. |

Tonsofquestions
The reason for my question is, in my case, I know the size I'd like, so I want to know which set fit in my comfort range. In the case of Messado rings I know I want rings 4" to 5" so Im wanting to know about these. I read somewhere they are 6", but then a response said "no" |

This guy here says they're 4.5" and a little smaller than ninja rings.
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=109#11 So they're probably close to what you want. You could also confirm by emailing the store you're going to purchase them from. |

The Matthew Garret ones are 4" as well. Very nice and shiny.
For me 4" is best because it fits in my jacket pocket. Any bigger cannot, so would require additional bags/pouches. It's also easier to do some of Messado's flourishy moves. I do have a set of 5" and 8"; 8" for if I ever develop a parlour/street act. |
