Hey guys, has anybody ever had the spider actually come off of the persons hand prematurly when performing the web? I just got one and I've been practicing on a book just off the edge of a table, and have noticed that the spider will sometimes fall of before I'm done my patter.
Any help is greatly appreciated!! Darcy |

Yeah It's happend twice to me, I just added alittle more pressure and that seemed to fix the problem but I also don't perform the effect much. but it's a staple in my friends act and she uses extra strength double sided sticky tape and it seems to work great for her it's never fallen off that I've seen. Hope this helps.

The cover of the book will have different physical/chemical properties to a hand. Once you've got it good, practice on your family members to get a feel for the right pressure. You'll find hands tend to be stickier than books. It'll probably stay on better with less effort.

Don't be afraid! Go out there and try it. It's a real killer. I've never had the spider fall off, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. However, and this has been said a zillion times, be careful of who you do this effect on. I did it to one girl who still isn't speaking to me because of it!
Another way to do this is to start with a card effect. Have them choose a card, control to the top, DL, have them hole the card face down in there fingers, then go into the web routine. Load the spider on the face of the card. Now, when they turn the card over, not only is there a big, hairy spider there, but also the card you showed them is now their chosen card. This takes some of the edge off of having an arachnid acctually on their hand. And the spider sticks well to the card. You can press with more pressure without digging into their hand. Hope this helps! |

I really like the premise of The Web. My girfriend really freaked out when I performed this for her. I'd like to perform it more often, but it's been such a hassle to carry the spider in my pocket, and when I remove it to perform, it's not sticky anymore. I've had so many occasions of the spider falling off prematurely that I don't perform this trick anymore.
1) How do keep the spider from falling off? 2) Where or how do you carry the spider? For those spectators who you think are super afraid of spiders, you may trick Caterpillar Love, where a beautiful butterfly appears at the end instead of a spider. Also the ladies love this cuz the story is good. But again, the probably of storage stickiness. Plus the wings on the butterfly is much more fragile that it broke while in my pocket. |

Does anyone know if anyone performs this with a real spider? After seeing the fly thing on THEM, I am kind of interesed in using a live spider. Could be great for a Halloween show.
Granted I know it could scare the pants of some people, but for the right crowd, it could be great.

Last Wednesday, I was doing this for someone and they started shifting around a lot. My friend signaled me that something was wrong and somehow I got her to turn away long enough to actually lean down, pick it up, and put it back on without her noticing. Everyone else had already seen the effect, so they all thought it was hilarious.
Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.
