You will learn PRINCIPLES when you read and study TARBELL.
THERE AINT NO SUCH THING AS "FREE LUNCH". Over 50 years, I have mentored, advised, guided, and encouraged, MANY young fellows (and some, gals, too!) Some of them are now, full time professionals. Some are now part time pro's. Others are avid amateurs. HERE COMES THE "BUT"!!! >>>They EARNED their knowledge.<<< I repeat: THERE AINT NO SUCH THING AS FREE LUNCH!!! The first thing I tell, and, have told, them, is: "I can't TEACH you anything! I can only HELP YOU LEARN! YOU must do the work. People in the Café who GIVE you the ANSWERS, are often, perhaps usually, expressing only their opinion. Opinions and facts AINT THE SAME THING!!! P.S.: At this point, you are a "first o' May", a 'JOHNNY COME LATELY". Before I would even begin to DISCUSS METHODS, I would need to see some CREDENTIALS! P.P.S.: There IS a SECRETS "table" in this Café. AFTER, you have 50 "legitimate" posts, you may be qualified to phrase a question. As of now, you sound like a little kid, asking, How did you do that?" Here's a HINT for you: N E V E R ask a magician how he does his trick(s)!

No such thing as a best move. It all depends on the context.
Reality is a real killjoy.

Hmm, that wasn't really the response I was expecting.
Im here to learn and colaborate as a working professional. Not to be lectured and called a kid, how rude. |

Favourite was probably the word I was looking for instead of best.

Can't really discuss "moves" in detail on this forum, but one method I have used to produce strange objects is
a "Go-Go Vanisher" functioning backwards from the instructions, e.g. light bulb, tea cup, bag of candy, calculator.

"Favourite" or "best", makes no difference.
As of this moment, 84 have viewed this forum. There have been two responders. One, from a professional (I am he)and one from a teenager, whom I believe has much more wisdom than a lot of teenage magicians. BTW; I didn't call you a kid. I said that you sounded like a kid.

Too many unknown factors to really comment.
You working at a table or standing behind a bar? What the conditions are make a huge difference. What are you wearing also makes a huge difference. Do you want a slight of hand method or gimmick method? All the factors mean you must at times adapt the move to the venue. There is not best move for a production. My 40 years of experience tells me that the best move is the one that works at the time. My friend Tommy likes to say the one where you didn't get caught or even suspected is the best move and that is not about the slight all the time. Timing plays a big part in it. That is why you got the few answers you got. Zach was essentially correct with his short answer. The only good piece of advice Dick gave you was that there is no free lunch. We cannot talk methods in the open forum but can in the secret sessions, even when some people forget there is such a forum here. Hope that is a bit more helpful to you, Mobius |

Aha, Thanks guys.
I'm not looking for anything in particular I was just curious if some people had some fun productions they like to perform. Not after an explanation for anything I just like to hear peoples effects and inspiration And yes I have no idea about this secret forum as I have only a few posts in the magic Café. And Mr Oslund I completely agree with what you say about no free rides. I spend a lot of time working on my sleights but its always nice to know what kind of ideas people come up with. |

As per Mobius303's comment, some more info about your performing conditions and clothing would be helpful, otherwise I would be limited to general small objects such as decks of cards, jumbo markers, coins, balls, phones etc.

There is a great deck production by Roger Crosswaithe that is performed at the table seated. Can be done in short sleeves or a jacket.
There are other great productions for objects to be found in the writings of or about Tony Slydini. For stand up I would check out much of the stuff that Michael Ammar has on it. He is a master. Steve Bedwell also has a number of things he does that rely more on timing / Misdirection to produce objects in plain site. That also would be a great place to start. Parked Card is one of my favorite routines. Enjoy, Mobius |

If you are familiar with Slydni's work, consider the imp-pass. Also check out Sylvester the Jester's work.
Get your post count up to 50, and then you will be able to access the Secret Sessions, where more of the inner work is permitted to be revealed. Bill

Sounds like a few fun guys to have a look at, familiar with some of the names but I'll have a look.
Performing conditions, I do a bit... well... Theatre stage, small stage, jacket, no jacket, street magic, table hopping, filming magic.. haha I am not limited by anything so for me if I like an effect I will use it. I already know so many but like everyone else here I am striving to find the perfect tricks |

The "perfect trick"~!? >>>There aint no such thing!<<<
A magic trick is, generally speaking, 5% SENSORY ILLUSION, 5% ESOTERIC SCIENCE PRINCIPLES, 5% SLEIGHT OF HAND SKILL, AND >>>85% PSYCHOLOGY<<<. A SHOWMAN, using hie PERSONALITY, PSYCHOLOGY, and, a GOOD PRESENTATION, can make a "poor" trick LOOK perfect!
