Hey all!

Been lurking this thread for a long time and I've read a lot about everyone's first time experiences. They say the first time is rough Smile, but I'm really excited to get out there.

I've been doing magic for only a few years but am very comfortable with talking to random people and doing magic. Now that I am finally home, I can dedicated way more time to this.

So my question to all of you for all of your opinions is about my 3-4 trick set. By no means are these 3-4 particular tricks 100% with me yet but I need to road test them and busking is pretty much my only go to instead of my best friend the mirror.

In your opinions, did these three tricks work for you if you have performed them? Obviously it depends on the character of the performer and presentation but for busking reasons why or why not would these particular tricks be more or less efficient than others.

Mind you this is before the crowd. I will do other stuffs but this will be the 'crowd set' if you will.

1- Five card opener/repeat

I think this just about works in any situation. I plan on keeping this.

2- PB&E

I have a theme going with paper bags. I genuinely like this routine.

3. Stabbed and Shot

Doing this card stab without the actual stab and instead of the shot production will be a lime.

4. (optional) Bill in Lime

I'm not 100% on this and I don't plan on bringing it out but I want to use it at some point.

What are your opinions? I have a few years of acting and performing (not just magic) under my belt and I consider myself to be able to handle banter because most of what I did is improv anyway.

Any feedback is welcomed!

I can't provide much feedback as I'm a newbie as well.

To start with I found I only needed two tricks for my show. That and a well rehearsed intro, patter and hatline. The show length is 6-8 minutes.

Only when I've actually nailed a tight 12-15 minute show, will I add a 3rd effect to the show. And I'll even be adding in more humour/interaction before I even add a third trick.

Keep it simple, go with the tricks you love and perform best.

Hey Chris, welcome to the 'Cyber-Sidewalk',
...the Pebibyte Pitch,..pdf.
,(god,..i've slept, the past two days,..straight!
ahhh.)

I've two questions?,.
questions.
First Question:..Robert already asked. (he woke up earlier then I.)
,....still,I'd also be interested in the answer.
(I think, somehow,
,.at least some of your 'stuff' should(?),..
COULD relate to your build-up.)

Second Question:...Robert didn't ask. (his was born earlier then I.)
(...😄 ☺️ 😘 )
What is PB&E
(Paper bag and Egg?,..
Paper balls and,.?,
..it's early.)

, . . . .. . , . ! . . *. . . . ß. . ö. . . . . . . .

My opinion,..
reading this,
after sleeping,
after drinking a coffee,
two croissants,
....reading an e-mail from my mother;
I thought to myself,
"Would anybody, walking down the Street,
..going somewhere,
with something on their mind,
plans,...
STOP,
and want to see any of this?"

A grown man,
"...in this hand five cards.
one, two, three, four,..
,....in this paper bag,
an egg!...
...that has magically turned to a lemon!
,..which I will stab..."

I'm sure you are a really nice guy,
and will present it all really nice.
Your timing will be pretty good,
..you'll be a bit nervous, at first.
You'll be clean.
,probably a bit charming...
'funny',.
,but
really,..
would anybody
going somewhere,
with something to do,..
the bakery,,
a dentist appointment,
,..gotta walk the dog,
coffee,...
Would they be interested enough,
to stop and take,..
GIVE(!)
you their precious time,
to watch any of this?,..?

it hit me:
Before Money,
we're asking folks,
to invest Time.
(On the streets,
today;
this may be a rarer commodity.)

I'm willing to discuss.

, . . . . . ß. . . .. , *. . . . . .

I believe the Streets are still,
somewhat a stage for sensation.
Between the garbage cans and gutter
we got to be more then clean-clutter.
Forget the 'structure'(!).,
present something starteling(!!)
You're a Magician!,
show wonder!!!!!
,i believe you can.
I believe you can.

Good questions. Guess we will find out after today! Those tricks are after they have stopped anyway but I'll let you all know how it works!

If you work like Will Selfox does, they would probably work fine, but if your looking to build a crowd ...... .?

Well that's the thing. The regulations here state as long as you're not impeding pedestrian traffic I'll be ok. So gathering of crowds into anywhere above 20 on these sidewalks aren't probably the best idea lol.

I'm back. It was colder today. About 50F. I had a group of about 5. They were waiting outside the independent movie theater here. They stopped and watched before their movie. got about 7 bucks for 3 tricks.

I actually only did a couple. I didn't do the ones listed above. I read the audience and they were watching but a little chilled so I didn't want to do anything that would take a little longer so I ended up doing :

5 card opener

Leipzig's Opener

Ring and Rope

In my opinion it wasn't the greatest of days with the lack of traffic but I'll time it so that the movie is letting out when I'm there.

Glad to hear you got out, the cold weather is tough and the slow foot traffic is a killer, but it is always good to hear stories from the pitch. Keep us posted.

How did the 5 card opener go?

Thanks. Actually it worked very well. I did a couple card tricks for a couple then when more people started watching is when I wanted to bring them through the figurative time machine. Which works very well with the call back. Until I work this more, thank you Bill Abbot for the patter idea. I'm going to bring in some photos with my face photoshopped/poorly copy and pasted/cut and pasted onto them and put them in cheap frames for a few more laughs.

Just out of curiousity, why were you planning on doing Stabbed and Shot without the stab? I kinda thought that was the best part. The kicker at the end is nice, too, but it works because they think they've already seen an amazing trick and that part of the show is over.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

Correct. Without the stab. Essentially I don't want kids attempting to try it at home. The area has a lot of family traffic because of all the restaurants and ice cream places. So no knives. You're right though, the shock factor is pretty amazing.

I like the idea of the 5 card opener. As its success relies on the performance rather than any dazzling sleight of hand.

I think it actually suits my style quite well, but as the middle effect - not an opener.

I will be interested to hear how this effect continues to play for you in the streets.

When are you planning on heading out next?
