I suppose there are some dollar sized copper rounds that may work, but thought some here might be aware of some copper coins that are as big, or just a bit smaller, than a U.S. dollar coin? Need to fit in a Morgan x].
Thanks in advance.

The only copper coin that was ever available was the Jumbo American Penny made in Sudbury, Canada. You can usually find them on eBay. Sudbury, is stamped on the coin, hardly noticeable. The town was a mining town back in the old days. They have made a couple Dollar Size Copper American Pennies as Commemorative coins for the town and it's history.
I found this one on eBay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Giant-1965-The-L......KtlWkB2H Historical information on Sudbury, Canada: http://www.miningartifacts.org/Canada-Mines.html |

Thanks, Bill. Good option.
I'm also looking into possible legal tender coins from other countries.

Chessman,
Copper bullion one ounce replicas of a US one cent piece can be found on eBay, quite reasonably. Varies with the price of copper, but I got mine for a little over one dollar each. Jim

Thank you, Jim.
I found a American Revolution Bicentennial Medal - which looks very much like a coin - fits perfectly the Morgan shell I have. The one I had was bronze, not copper, but can still work to my purpose. Here's a photo: Also is the copper Peace Dollar sized coin. The lady is the same, but the flip side is different. I don't know if this will fit a Morgan shell...my normal Peace silver dollar will not (it is just barely too big for the shell). Here's a pic.

I have a copper Walker in "dollar size" (1 oz) same back as the Peace Dollar in your picture. (cost me about $1.87) but it is a bit larger than a Morgan Dollar so an Exp Shell will not fit.

There are copper crowns by Lassen but they are not cheap.
Schoocraft has a variety of copper dollar sized in both brass and copper as well. I like the copper issued morgans and peace dollars. You could use sand paper make it fit the [ as suggested by Curtis Cam and others. There are also dollar sized chinese coins by a number of manufactuers as well. |

As someone who has used the sanding method on another coin project, I have one word: patience.

I got a Sudbury-style copper penny (silver dollar size) from Brad Burt years ago. It looks as good as when I purchased it.

I forget exactly how much I paid, but it was something like $15 each, no patience needed. |

I sanded it down to match the center C/S insert of my Johnson walking liberty hopping half set. Now I have a set to do "Soleil et Lune". I had tried this a couple years ago and rushed it to the point I ruined my walker at the time and sold it for melt at the local coin shop. After hearing Curtis Cam talk about it in a recent download, I tried again with great results. But did it slowly by hand and kept it moving around as to not get the flat spots I got on the first attempt.

Speaking of a dollar sized copper coin... Does anyone know what copper coin is used on Tango's Eisenhower Copper Silver coin? Is it a real coin or an over-sized replica of an English penny?
I'm working on a Spellbound routine with a little copper/silver work at the end. I've got several very shiny Eisenhower proof coins, so would just need the same copper coin used in the Tango Eisenhower Copper Silver coin to complete my set. I've been doing it with the half-dollar size (Kennedy half and English penny), but I wanted to make it visually bigger!

Can't say for sure what Tango uses for C/S but I do have one of their Ike hopping halves and I believe they used a copper coin that looks like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Ounce-999-Fine-Cop......04MF87VI So my guess is that they would probably use the same for a C/S but maybe someone else can confirm that. |
