Just heard that Earl Nelson passed away about a year ago. Anyone have any information about this. If true, rest in peace Earl. He was a great guy.

I'm sure this is news to Earl. Just spoke with him before Christmas. I met with a guy that sessions with him about every week or two and Earl is fine.

To confirm, I emailed Earl and received an email in return.

"I really appreciate all you checking on me."

Earl

So good news there!

What a great man. I had the pleasure of sitting down with him for two evenings in Las Vegas and watching him blow me away with his flawless card work. Great teacher.

Man, I'm glad this was a false alarm!

I truly enjoyed watching Earl perform downstairs at the Magic Castle over-flow room back in the day. His work was slow and crystal clear. And astonishing. His performance of Kohler's U3F and R Paul Wilson's Ricochet are still vivid in my mind well over a decade later. When he moved away from southern Cal a lot of guys who frequented Hollywood Magic, which was right down the street from the Castle, used to inquire about Earl.

No longer a false alarm, unfortunately. He passed away last night.

Earl was among the second wave of Vernon's students to arrive at the Castle in the late 1960s along with Steve Freeman, Mike Skinner, Jeff Altman, and Ricky Jay. He left us a very good book on magic, and other exceptional supplemental material. His superperb technique and performance style were the exemplification of naturalness.

Earl Nelson's book "Variations" is one of the absolute GEMS of my Magic Library and is HIGHLY recommended to all who love doing closeup Magic. If you do, as I do, and you can't find a KEEPER in this outstanding book, you might as well give up.

This book is WORTH IT'S WEIGHT IN GOLD TO A WORKER!
