I just came across new release of Jamie Daws and I couldn't resist but ordering. It's on pre-order now and having few of Jamies "tricks" I believe it's worth spreading the word. I can't say if it's worth the money or not yet but knowing Jamie's work it's worth every penny.

Aww thanks Pawel! The response from this has been incredible! I never thought it would be received so well!

Fire Starter, if you take the plunge, I hope you dig it man!

This is the 1st in my Dark Series with Alakazam Magic. In a few months, the second will hopefully be released! The funny thing is, I had never intended for this to be brought to market! Believe it or not, I don't show much of my material to magicians. It is a rarity and all of the effects I create are actually created for me and my use. But I happened to be in Alakazam one afternoon talking about the scheduling for the other two projects, and showed it to Dave Loosley. To my astonishment, he was taken aback by it. He called in Peter who again was taken by it and finally Andy. Whats more incredible was, non had any idea how it was done. Peter was convinced the photos couldn't be turned over but of course they can. So I realised then, it might be something other magicians might enjoy!

The History on it, it was based on a beautiful effect I saw called What A Turn Up by Kaymar Magic. In that version of the trick, 5 cards are handed to your spectator and you also have 5. Both the magician and the spectator place their 5 cards face down behind their backs. They are asked to take one out randomly and you do the same. Then you each trade your selections, so the magician gives his selection to the spectator and the spectator gives his card to the magician. Then they are instructed to place their cards face up into the remaining cards they have behind their back. Thus, the performer and the spectator each has one card face up amongst a face down pile of cards. The selections, whilst made sight unseen both match and the remaining cards are blank on their faces. A remarkable trick considering there is no real moves, its in the spectators hands and requires nothing other than 10 cards.

I immediately thought it would be a beautiful trick to have with photos and began formulating a story. However, I had a couple of issues with the original method. Firstly, if you are asking your spectator to make a selection, why would they hand it to you? It seems strange. They would surely want to protect it and make sure no funny business is taking place! Secondly, I wanted to be able to have things written on the back of the photos. Lastly, I wanted the reveal to be a bit more delayed. The matching is great with cards, but the idea of the envelope had a whole other eeriness to it.

So with this methodology, you only need 10 photos and an extra 2 in the envelope. Nothing more is needed, added or taken away. There is no sticky stuff used and it's practically self working. Meaning, as with all of my effects, you can focus on presentation! Also, they hold onto their selection throughout and they will swear that they never let go of it. Once they have made their selection, placed it into the remaining photos and mixed them all behind their back, you go no where near the photos. You don't touch them and you allow them to turn their photo over.

I hope this goes someway to explaining how it came about and hopefully it whets your appetite just that bit more! If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask and ill do my best to help out!

Jamie, this is a refreshing take on the LD test. Waiting for pay day at the end of the week and taking the plunge.

Aww thanks guys! I've never come across a LD test that I really liked doing. I think its a genre that a lot of people shy away from but its one of the most fundamental parts of being human!

Thought I might mention, hopefully next week were going to film another presentation based around card cheats. Its not as creepy, but it's just another angle so that you can get the most out of the product!

"So many people ask me, how did you get into magic? Well, I began in casinos. Cheating at cards, as cliche as it sounds. Me and a friend would take short trips to Vegas and using my skills of dexterity and his mathematical genius, we rinsed the casinos of thousands of dollars. We were unstoppable. Until one day, a big guy, in a suit tapped me on the shoulder. Told me to follow him. Before we knew it, we were blindfolded and tied to chairs having the crap kicked out of us. I guess they worked out what we were doing and they didn't like it. But then this guy comes in and I could only presume he was the boss or something. He slid my blindfold to the top of may nose just so that I could see the small black envelope that he was waving in front of me. The good thing about Vegas is, everyone loves a bet no matter what the circumstances! And he set me a challenge. He told me that in that black envelope was a blackjack hand that he'd put in there without looking. He said that if I was such a good cheat, I should be able to match or better his blackjack hand whilst blindfolded. If I matched or bettered his hand, we both lived. If not, he would make us, 'disappear'. So of course, I accepted the challenge.... "

Ordered (pre-ordered) mine. Found your trailer very enticing and Peter and Dave really loved it on the Alakazam v-blog! Great job, Jamie.

Good to hear Jamie. I have few LD approaches in my collection but none can be adopted to what I saw on your video. Really looking forward to receiving DECEASED.

I can't add myself to your newsletter / mailing list for some reason. Can you please take a look at your webpage? Or is it just me?

Sorry guys, I'm still trying to sort out the mailing list! As soon as it is back up, ill be sure to let you know! Smile

Pawel, me too man. I quite like some of the OOTW LD tests but they just felt a little too long winded to me. I like that this version can be adapted to so many different presentations also.

Thank you all for your support and your confidence in the effect! I'm sure you'll love performing it just as much as I have! Smile

This looks excellent, and I'm definitely grabbing a copy. However, I might use different photos--I notice that one of the included pictures is of Edward Sheriff Curtis, a photographer and ethnologist who was relatively famous. I'm sure it is doubtful that most would recognize him (even if I immediately did) but that would be too risky for me. I assume that any photos or cards can be used, so I will switch them out--and come up with an alternate backstory, as I'm sure many of us will. It does look like a very impressive and impactful effect!

Wanderwizard, you do indeed end exactly the same every time! There are no MO's and there is nothing added or taken away.

ponchito, yes! Smile Only 12 photos are provided. 10 for the effect and 2 as revelations. All you need to perform this effect is that and that alone! And the envelope of course!

Thank you all for the support and I'm glad all these questions are floating around! I can promise, between the demo and what they guys talk about on last weeks Alakazam Video Blog, it is exactly as you see. A very simple method using 12 photos and one envelope. Nothing else with nothing sticky or rough if you know what I mean! Everything is examinable and they will be certain they never let go of their selection!

Wander wizard, I'm sure you won't be disappointed sir! I love these kind of effects too! Kim Critchlows Till Death Us Do Part by Alakazam is by far one of the most inspired bizarre pieces I've come across. Its incredible how something so elegant and simple can be mixed with something so dark and psychologically disarming!

Thank you for all the messages! Remember, if you have any questions, I'm always happy to help! Not long until the launch date and I can't wait for you all to creep out your spectators! Smile
