Mind, Myth, and Magick is a brilliant book and well worth the price of admission.

I lIke the looks of it but am not willing to pay what some people are asking. I had one person want 150 and get angry when I thanked him but refused the offer

I'll second Vlad's comment - brilliant book. An incredible resource of ideas and routines to get your creative thoughts flowing. Synchroincidence, Clubble, and so many, many, many, more. Mind-boggling really.
It does seem unnecessary for someone to get angry with you for not going up to their price. A check of things today at Amazon, eBay, and AbeBooks shows a scant few copies for under $200 ($149, $199) while most copies are $250 and up. And I do mean UP. Prices seemed to get up there around October / November. Maybe due to the book's desirability as a really nice holiday gift. Even for oneself. --
PM me if you want to chat sometime.

$150 was a good price. You're not likely to find it for less.

Amazon and AbeBooks are good places to look but you can't take the prices posted very seriously. I use Amazon myself to sell and almost always my books are lowest priced but they're definitely not flying off the shelf. Which means one of two things; they're still overpriced or the potential customer isn't finding them. I think it's a bit of both. I'm not sure but I don't think magicians tend to think of Amazon when they're looking for magic books. Unfortunately, with these sites you can't see what previous books have actually sold for.
To get an idea of the real market place price I think eBay is the best option. It's certainly not perfect but you at least can see what someone decided to actually pay. You still have to consider several things. Was the sale an auction or "Buy it Now"? If it was an auction it give a better representation of market price, but you really need several sales to get a good average, which you typically don't get for the more scarce magic books. The last two sales for "Mind, Myth, and Magick" where the book actually sold were both "buy it now" sales. The first was on Jan. 22 and sold for $50. Someone got a great deal. The second was on Mar. 1 for $150. Who knows if it would have gone higher in an auction. -Brian |

And someone had no idea what they were selling. The lowest priced copies listed on bookfinder dot com today are $645.23 (I'm guessing they'd take 645 even) new and $241.21 used. |

There's one on eBay now in the UK~going in the next four days.
I know the seller will be happy to post it abroad using international mail.
I feel as if I have been whisked here from another life....it may even have been my own!

If you want to cheap it through and waiting to get to the content (or any trick) be patient. There eventually is some fool or an estate sale where they do not know what they have or how to price it. And in a capitalist society this is fine -- if you have patience..
If you are serious (amateur or professional) and want to get to work rather than just satisfy curiosity -- often you will pay the current asking or retail price so you CAN get to work and use the material and perfect it before anyone else in your market' With books I have always tried for the best deal but know that Andy Greget and Byron Walker among others not only offer the best in magic books -- but have probably read and can evaluate everything they have available for you. It cost $900 but I got the Complete Magik (every issue and insert) in looseleaf form curated by Andy at least three years before the bound versions came out from Collector's. I was using the material for three years before the reprints. Here on the Café I have seen some amazing bargains reported by those who keep looking. For instance I know that Evil Dan and I both have copies of The Complete Mental Secrets of Newman -- and would take about $775 IF we wanted to resell. But one person went on E Bay and in an estate found one offered opn auction and quietly got it for about $200. The seller was not interested in the deep work of mentalism and seance performance or know that only 500 or a thousand of these volumes were ever printed -- or ever will be. so, how much is knowledge worth to you and on what time scale? Excliuding Yorik's skull -- THAT is the question.
