This set needs only a ring, a bic pen, and a coin.
I busk this set when I want to busk without committing to carrying things around. After-bar situations and the like. I know I perform well to people and crappy to cameras, please don't bother telling me my performance is weak. I'd prefer discussion to be about the set, the tricks, the order, the patter, etc. Not this specific performance. I designed this set to be very set-em-up knock-em-down style. The single coin into impromtu hitman works to get the first 3 or 4 to start. The ring is very visual, gathers more of a crowd, borrows an object and such. The pen poem is a great closer, people love it. All credit for that routine goes to Antino Art, a Miami Samurigician The show runs closer to 10 minutes with real people involved. My hat line works pretty well, of anyone who tips they usually give $2/person to make up for the people leaving. So if in 10 minutes I gather a 15-20 person crowd, 10 of them tip, I'm usually pulling $20 per 10 minute show. Not bad for almost no props. Here's the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-H8OMP06U3g |

I really love this set. I'm always had a soft spot for single coin routines. I love the set and how you come back to the pen. The poem really works wonders with the routine at the end and is a great way to end the set. My one thought is, the ring routine ends suddenly and you jump back to the pen for the finale. Is there a way to end the ring routine in a way that would involve bringing the pen back into play. For instance, do the ring routine, then some kind of ring penetrating onto the pen effect. Then you can hold one end of the pen and let the spectator take the ring off the pen. That would leave you holding just the pen, and you could go into the ending routine.

I absolutely loved that. You defiantly have a great talent. The only thing I could say is work on your classic palm a little. The hand looks just a little cramped. Like I said though that was beautiful and that's the only minor thing I could think of after watching twice

Like it a lot!!!!
If you haven't already check out Ring Master by David Jay, some really nice moves. Ring to 8 Ball is so simple but really hits hard. |

Good manipulation that will keep people guessing where things have gone or are coming from.
Thanks for sharing the video.
The presentation makes the magic.

About 18 months ago I got Marvelous Pencyclopeadia by Tom Crosbie. It was after researching for a single coin routine for my street show. I have played around with a few ideas and got the moves for a basic routine ready but it needs a lot of work and I have invested my time on other things for my show. But your video as fanned those flames for me to revist.
Great video and thanks for posting.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

You were rushing, nervous (shifting your weight from one foot to the other), repetitive (doing the same trick over and over and over again, offensibly using the same method), among other "flaws" that I don't wish to go into.
In short, where did you think this routine would work and why haven't you done so for at least a year or two before posting it here? Ok, it's a concept in your mind? Then why not say so? My critique is presumably unsolicited, so take it for what that's worth to you. |

I have done it for two years. All of your concerns were addressed in my original post, feel free to read that I have nothing new to add in response to your criticism that you deemed not worth going into

I actually did most of this routine when I performed for Penn and teller As I said, I know my performance to an empty room isn't as good as my performance to spectators. But I also know I'm a *** good magician, and have made lots of money busking this routine. So if you think it's crappy I'll respectfully disagree

Stating his opinion, nothing wrong with that I appreciate him taking the time to comment on my routine.

Put together fairly well, I think.
What do you think about your own sleights?

I very much enjoyed the routine, and can see how it will play well on the streets I work on. The only exception is when traffic noise or ocean/wind noise would drown out the poetry. Your personality is likable and you have skills that I wish I had.
Eric, while I haven't met you in person, I have a lot of respect for your years of work and experience. Can you help me understand why repeatedly using the same sleight is a problem for the lay person. I get the idea of not exposing something by repeatedly showing a move, but I don't think Strat is doing that, so I'm wondering if there is another principle that you are pointing toward. |

The word "free" is anathema to a busker.
