Hello!
Along with giving up chocolate I thought I might use the 40 days of Lent to work on a new magic skill. I quite like projects with a deadline, anyone fancy joining me? Possible candidates I'm considering are - * the A*****n Stack * the M****e Pass ....but obviously you can choose what you like. I thought company might make it more fun. |

I have been wanting to up my practice. Using 40 days to do it sounds good. So is there a minimum time to practice each day? Is it one trick, one routine, or should we pick one to three tricks? What guidelines should be in place to help people stay motivated?

I would like to work on something specific, but if someone wants a concerted effort to do more general practice then that's fine too.
I don't want to exclude anyone based on the amount of time that they can dedicate. I suggest that we each just set our own goals and then support each other (sharing progress and tips as we go). |

I'm already in the "Who will stand with me " thread in this section.(similar goals and support but it has fallen off a bit in checking in.
I'm currently working on Ring and Ribbon and a multiplying ball routine and hank ba** manipulation. I'm hoping to get Ring and Ribbon out in the world more. I feel stuck in the practice phase. -Mary Mowder |

Here is the link.
http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=108 Just read the rules (but take them with a grain of salt and adjust them to your need) and skip to the last page if you want in. Usually if someone posts to the thread there will be some activity to follow and others will check in. You could still go on with your 40 day challenge but you are welcome to join the Who will.... thread if you'd like. -Mary Mowder |

I'll be getting a chance to do Ring and Ribbon for a Birthday Party of 10 years olds tomorrow.
That should let me know where I stand LOL. -Mary Mowder |

Sarah, congratulations on learning a stack, you will not regret it!
This evening I did a 30 min Stand-Up set first, then invited the Kids up closer. No problems at all with the Ring and Ribbon as far as the Kids seeing anything they should not. Lots of bad angles as there were more Kids than I would normally have booked for Close-Up when I arrived and Kids creep out of place quickly while they are standing. (When I do Close-Up at a Birthday Party the kids all watch at once standing up close around my table, short ones up front and tall in the back). Still, through a combination of keeping it close to the vest, mis-direction and smooth speed I got to go through every bit with no problems. The performance needs work but the moves themselves work and amaze. I got a good response (but not as strong as it should be when polished). Lots of time spent with the Kids looking at the Ring and Ribbon though. All in all, I was very happy. -Mary Mowder |

Well, @ 40 days.
I've worked on Ring and Ribbon daily and Hank Ba** about every 3 days. I've had a couple of chances to do Ring and Ribbon for 10 year olds. The first time seemed better than the 2nd (but I was not "caught" either time). Since I do 20th Century silks with a hank ball and that is in my show, I've had more chances to do that but there is not much manipulation in the routine so not much of a stretch. All in all, I made progress but not as much as I would have hoped. Maybe I need another 40. -Mary Mowder |

Great idea! I'm going to try a 40 day challenge to work on Lance Pierce's Recharmed, I'm Sure. Great work on your performances!
