Hey everyone,
I was recently invited back to CT Style on ABC 8 in Connecticut. It was my third and most successful appearance by far. This time I sent the producer a press release about my TEDx talk hitting 1 million views, and they had me on within 2 weeks to talk about it and also my burgeoning work as a youth motivational speaker. Link: https://youtu.be/XnTqNkvF68A My goal for the spot was to have a tight 5 minute TV appearance that could be used in email campaigns to my existing client base and mailing list, and also for cold marketing to new clients in the youth speaking market, in New England. On my journey to learn how to utilize media appearances as a source of increasing my business and developing my professional reputation, about six months ago I picked up Mindpro's "Press and Media for Entertainers" book. It is a magnificent resource and was largely responsible for my preparation and the subsequent success of this spot. I was absolutely thrilled with the result. I felt calmer, more confident, and more in control of the tone of the appearance than ever before. I highly recommend Minpro's book for anyone looking to utilize press and media to their advantage. I'm keeping this post short but am happy to answer questions about the preparation and my plans to use it in future marketing efforts. I also invite any feedback on what could be done even better next time. Best, Brian |

Hey Brian,
Congratulations on an excellent appearance! I love the fact that you mentioned rehearsing your presentation over 200 times in preparation for your TEDx talk. One of my keynote presentations is titled "Maximize Your Impact. How to captivate, motivate, and inspire any audience.", and one of the key ideas I present is that on preparation. Preparation is what gives you the confidence to go out and and give the best presentation possible. You were obviously prepared for your TEDx talk and for this television appearance. Bravo! Wishing you continued success! Lou Serrano |

I've been trying to get in touch with MindPro...but his PM In Box is full...I've tried sending a direct email, but I haven't head back yet. I purchased his press and media eBook...but there was no download link, so I'm guessing he emails the link. But when...? It would be nice if he were more responsive.
Thank You...Continued Success, Dr. Dan |

I've PM's you this morning. Sorry, upon checking I have not received your email. As detailed all orders are sent within 24 hours subject to approval. It is not an instant download. My PM box is usually quite full (but I try to clear it daily) since this release and the announcement of the next two releases in this Entertainment Success Series. Enjoy!

Yes, congratulations to Brian! Thanks for the kind words about my book. I think this is a great example of someone understanding how to utilize press and media appearances as part of your positioning, branding and marketing. It's also a great example of someone taking the info in my book and directly applying it to get the results desired.
I think your appearance here was your best so far. You were more comfortable, relaxed, concise and in control. You can tell it was planned and thought out in advance. Just at a quick glance you spoke well, didn't speak over the hosts, didn't babble or have a lot of hesitations, answers were thought out and you had control and purpose to the performance in the segment. It was about you not the magic. (I personally also enjoyed seeing your face sans the hat, but that's just me). Also the hosts seemed much more engaged and focused on your message rather than just the trick(s). Personally while the previous appearances were nice, this one seemed better in many ways. More serving, more professional and controlled. I hope you feel it was an improvement as well and I appreciate any part my advice and content from my book played in your success. But I can only offer the info, you must apply it and make it come to life, which I feel you did well. In retrospect how do you think it went? Any things you missed or would like to improve? Another element which I thought you did well and I feel is quite important to getting the results you hoped to accomplish and monetize is that you had a distinct goal. I feel you it it on the mark. You got a great 5 minute feature TV segment that you can use exactly as you desired in promotional material, social media, marketing and however else you choose. Now think for a minute what you received and what it cost you. To pay for five minutes of television promotion would literally cost you thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars to get the proper promotional content you desired. To produce it, buy the air time, etc. This cost you virtually nothing and look what you received and now have to work with as you choose. This is why I feel properly understanding press and media is something all entertainers on all levels should utilize and benefit from. It could very well be the best investment (with the greatest return) you can make in your performing and business. I'm sure you are your own worst critic and know this was a great accomplishment, yet there are still things that can be done to improve even more and to propel your business to even greater heights, purposes and benefits. As you can see this can quickly and easily separate you from your competition in your desired markets and applications. Also since you have the book you can now also see how to use this appearance to generate more media appearances as well. Nice job! |

Brian,
I think my favorite part of your interview was how you transformed the "show us a trick" moment into how you use magic to show different perspectives. Preparation payoff! Good work, and it is awesome to see your career evolve. I look forward to someday when I am being interviewed on tv and I can take control of interview as well you demonstrated. Thank you again for sharing your story.

Brian, what a great segment. And I have to agree there is a lot of wisdom in Mindpro's E-book. I have gained very valuable information from it. I have yet to apply the principles yet but I am on my way.

Hey Mindpro, thanks very much for the kind words. Regarding the hat - I don't wear the hat as as a speaker (whether it's youth or corporate). I made the decision after the TEDx talk. I don't regret wearing it in the TEDx talk, because I wanted to keep the image consistent with my existing image as a magician, but now it's a way to separate my work as a speaker. It's more open and inviting, and helps me visually put the emphasis on meaning over magic.
In retrospect I only wish I had better posture while seated. It was pointed out to me in a PM that I looked a bit stiff with my hands glued to my knees, which I hadn't noticed. I agree, and will work on a more natural sitting position. I was trying hard not to look slouchy, and went too far in the other direction. TheHedge: I copiously rehearsed turning the "show us a trick" moment into working for my message and towards my goal. It helped that I've been on the show twice before and have a feel for the way they like to run things, so I knew kind of what to expect, and was able to plan for that moment. Thanks everyone for taking the time to watch! |

Hey Brian, I'm glad you recognized the hands and posture elements. Body language can be a huge part of both perception, trust and credibility, but also confidence and believability. There were times that you used or "talked with your hands" that I liked (positive body language) especially like when you were explaining the magic and how you use it. But as you mentioned there were times with the hands on the knees, posture and nodding that body language could be more controlled or enhanced.
Now mind you, this is getting into deeper and more advanced concerns, but it all adds to what you are trying to accomplish. Glad you recognize it and also that you are willing to be open to what others saw that we might sometimes overlook ourselves. So what's next? lol |
