Can anyone advise me as to feel and weight of these?
Irrespective of cost, are they worthwhile? a decent weight? decent size? texture? I have a feeling that they might be handy for practice but consider REAL fruit and veg better for performance... Comments? |

I purchased Michael Ammars Fab Fruit (3 lemons) and have found them to be extremely convincing. My wife got upset because she had seen them in the drawer and told me that they are certainly going to Rot. I asked her to hand it to me. While she was carying it, I asked if it has showed any signs of rotting yet. She said "No." I then asked her if she thought it was real. She took a close look at it, then finally concurred that it was not real because when you sniff it up close, it has that light manufactured smell, instead of lemon smell. She sniffed it a few times before coming to that conclusion. It looks and feels like a real lemon.

They are well worth the price for sure.
They are all perfect size and weight. Best, Brad

I have seen fruit like these in craft stores for years for only a few $'s.

The fruits in the craft stores are made of light plastic which can get very noisy for a cups and balls routine. The fab fruits are made of dense rubber which cuts down the noise considerably. The Fab fruits are worth getting...

Now is a good time to buy them from http://www.ammarmagic.com
They are normally 60 dollars as a set. But you can get them now for 50 dollars. I played around with them at Ammar's lecture last week. They are very real looking. |

The ones I purchased at the craft store are not plastic. They are very silent load and look like the real thing.
Enigmo, I do not remember you being with me when I went shopping. |

Wmhebli,
You are correct. I wasn't with you. My original comment wasn't intended to contradict yours but an observation based on my personal research. I have been looking around in all the craft stores, grocery stores, furniture stores for a decent set of fruits for years in my city and never found anything satisfactory. According to Michael Ammar's site, so has he. I would thus appreciate if you could tell me in which craft store you have found yours. I wouldn't mind complementing another set of cups and balls I have. Thanks. |

I've had the same experience, Enigmo. I've tried Michael's crafts stores (a chain) with no luck, as well as locally-owned places. They all have the hard, hollow fruit. I'd love to know where to get inexpensive, soft, realistic-looking fruit. Amen Wardy seems to have some great, but very expensive, stuff, and the web site doesn't list dimensions of the pieces.

I saw some at wal-mart today...there were not like the ones at Michael's but more of a softer texture sorta felt like a cross between a hard plastic and rubber..somewhere inbetween. I know they would have very minimal talking.

I have a set of Fab Fruit, and I love them! They are the perfect size and weight for a load, and there is simply no talking. Michael did a lot of research to find the perfect fake produce, and they are perfect. They are definately worth the asking price , especially if you do a lot of travelling in places where you can't bring real produce with you. They will also take a beating. If you are a pro, these are worth the extra money!

Yep, these are definitely worth the dough. I like to use regular fruit when I can, but I've always got my Fab Fruit on hand just in case I can't or don't feel like getting over to the store to get some of the real stuff.

I've noticed over the last month or so he has dropped the fruit from his line for some reason.

Mike Ammar was here in Fort Wayne to lecture last week. He had his Fab Fruit with him. It is back, he said he had a problem of availability earlier, but he has them back. He said his supplier was out of one item, but I have forgotten which one that was now. He had a potato, lemon, turnip, apple with him.
They are very heavy super ball type of material and look extremely real, up close. The weight aids to the loading process. He now has them on his site again. I would recommend these as an alternative to other finale items. |

I just bought a set at Michael's lecture at Magic, Inc. tonight. Seems like I got the last ones he had with him - a tomato, lemon, lime, and turnip. He's currently out of potatoes, which is too bad as they look especially good. I'm very happy with this fruit - it all fits into my Monti Cups, it has a very realistic weight, and the hardish rubber doesn't talk or slip. No more auditioning fruit at the supermarket for me.
