I've kept this rather quiet, but, as I've only finally mentioned it to a few friends in person at Blackpool this weekend, it felt right that I should make an announcement here where we all interact virtually as well.
I am pleased to announce my first major release since Train Tracking. It is called The Intrepid Rogue's Manual of Deception and contains 13 excellent effects and several expository essays relating to a performer's development within mentalism along with several associated business considerations. Additionally, in the spirit of disclosure, I must say that while I have a reputation for propless mentalism, this book frequently highlights my work with props, often blending the 'nothing to find' element of the approach that I am known for with the appealing visual aspect of performance that props provide. That isn't to say that there are no propless pieces in the book – they are there as well. Overall, I'm very proud of The Intrepid Rogue's Manual of Deception and its mix of stage and close up material and am happy to say that it will be a quality hardback book designed by the peerless Phill Smith and printed with the uncompromising quality that Haresign press has become known for. The Intrepid Rogue's Manual of Deception should be available on March 31st. Best, Atlas |

Sounds great. Best of luck with that and remember to save some copies for your lecture at the NWSM on the 10th May.

Hi Atlas,
You say this is your major release since Train Tracking. By any chance, do the effects in here use the principles in train tracking ? Or the ownership of any of your prior releases is required ? Thanks in advance.

To be clear, Train Tracking is not reprinted here and you don't need to own any of my previous work to appreciate any of the effects within - though someone who does own my material will obviously have an insight into how I think and present mentalism. While much of the history of my prior work is prop free, the majority of effects in this book does require the use of props, ranging from business cards, to stock certificates, to specially printed gimmicks shipped with the book. Some arts and crafts is required for some effects and one routine in particular requires billets but uses them in such a way that even someone who is all thumbs can perform some amazing feats. I hope that helps answer your question. Best, Atlas |

Can't wait to see the contents. Atlas never fails to amaze. I still believe Train Tracking is the best/most realistic/most hard hitting mind reading effect to ever be sold.
I'm sure this release will be a big hit. |

As far as contents, I'm very tight on time at the moment and while I've written the book, taking the time to distil the contents of each section into a few paragraphs is another challenge. With my schedule the way it is, I think I'll have to share what I can here in dribs and drabs as the opportunity presents itself: Market Traitor - This is a great, funny effect in which four people are brought on stage and asked to imagine themselves as stock market traders. The performer, after lecturing them about the corrupting power of greed, takes the role of the head of the SEC (or FSO) and sets a pile of cash and an envelope in front of each person, warning them that he has been given a tip by an internal whistleblower. This whistleblower asserts that illegal insider trading is about to take place - if the participant chooses to invest in the stock that is contained inside the envelope, this will be taken as evidence of their crime and they will forfeit any of the gains they made on the market. Inevitably, despite having a free choice of stocks and never having indicated what stock they chose to invest in until after the contents of the envelopes are revealed, each participant is found guilty of insider trading and led back to their seats in handcuffs. I went for dinner with Atlas last night and we were chatting about his upcoming book.
Everyone knows we are friends and I am a big fan of his work, I'm familiar with a lot of Atlas's material that hasn't been released and to be frank, I'm quite surprised by the range of material he has decided to put in this book. Fans of all types of mentalism, be it prop-less, classical or even mixture/fusion of the two are in for a real treat when this is released. One of my particular favourites is a routine entitled 'One in the Chamber' which is essentially a close up Q&A style routine. I've watched this evolve from a 'simple idea' quite some time ago into something now that is a real fooler and in the right hands can be a marathon of entertainment. The method is as addicting as the presentation and I expect it to be a real popular item in the book. Not long now

I'm still absorbing and thinking through the contents of The Black Project only to be hit by the one-two punch of this and Mark Chandaue's forthcoming book. Atlas never fails to amaze and, in my opinion, has a unique angle on mentalism. I'm really looking forward to this.
And the book title is cool as hell!! |

I'm to the stage where the cover is being finalized and while the design is set, I can't decide on the coloring - so I thought I'd get some feedback.
We've got four options: Green with gold foil stamping. Click here to view attached image. |
