What is a good source for cabby use? Maybe I'm running when not chased, but always feel a bit guilty when using a cabby.

If our Cabby is built correctly, there is not reason to feel guilty. In this case, the prop does the magic, not the magician. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion, as you have the box and know how to draw on the magic it possess.

Have you seen those big illusions on tv? Someone gets into an empty box and suddenly they disappear and in their place there is a tiger! There's one problem though...those boxes are really hard to carry. So tonight I'd like to perform a really big illusion....but I'm going to use my portable version!

And, the other problem is that those big kitties, expect a very high protein diet!

Ah.........Rice's Encylopedia of Silk Magic.........what a treasure trove!!!
In my opinion, it's one of the essentials for every serious Magician's working library! |

Walter Gydesen used to do a delightful little effect of simple joining silks together through a silk cabby. Bill is correct, you are bringing the magic out of the box.

Most of the effects that are performed with a silk cabby can be performed with any empty box, including a playing card box. You can take a white handkerchief and tuck it into the empty card box, have a card chosen from the deck, and let a spectator remove the handkerchief to discover that it now has a picture of his chosen card. Why would you use a wooden box when that scenario seems more plausible? So you are right- if you are searching for reasons to use your nice little wooden box, make it an effect that requires a little wooden box and has a justifiable reason for doing so.
Think BEYOND the box.
