I recently bought Best Ever Knots Off Silk. The instructions from Jeff McBride are terrific but I've been unable to keep the type of knot supplied (sponge sewed into a circle) from sometimes snagging and getting hung up on the silk. I've heard that there is a version using metal in the knots that works more smoothly. Can anyone tell me where I can buy this, assuming it exists?I've heard that Bob Sanders carries such a thing but have no idea how to purchase from him. Thanks!

I have not heard of any such thing. Why not study why the knot is clinging. Or watch the video again and see if you missed anything in the setup and performance.
How to contact Box Sanders, simply PM him, using the PM system here on the Café. |

I don't have McBride's sponge knots, but I do make my own (for my own use). They use something similar (easily sourced ) to what you are currently using, but are more convincing as 'knots' and never snag on the silk.
They do take a bit of needlework to make though, but if you want more information, please pm me and I'll happily explain. Alan |

Bob Sanders' version is made with brass chains in the middle of the loops. If you want the "knots" to slide off by themselves this version works very well. I have all three version of knots off silk commercially available and each has there advantages and disadvantages. I bought all three just to see which one I liked best.

I had the same trouble as the waterford is having when I first started handling this version of the effect. The answer is simple though... just pull the silk really tight as if you're tying a tight knot. At the moment you are finding that the knot is getting caught up because it hasn't formed completely cleanly into its figure of 8. Pulling the silk taut will free any material from the knot allowing the figure of 8 to form cleanly. Then you can slide the knot off with no issues.

Thanks to all for excellent advice. Between advice received in PMs and here, I think I've got the problem licked. Pulling the silk tight makes a difference in getting the knots off and one of you offered in PM a different way to make the knots, which I am exploring.

The beauty of this method is that as the knot forms in the middle of the handkerchief your hands are well away from it, holding the ends. Other (equally effective) methods tend not to have this feature... but in my opinion it's the main reason for using this method.
