I love them! Something about them is really good, devoid of all the effects and camera work that looks good nowadays but detracts sometimes from the storytelling.
Great thing about Youtube is you can watch quite a lot of them old flicks there for free. Do you have any recommendations as to which are the really good ones for me to watch?

How old is old? Forties, fifties, sixties, seventies, eighties? No, I'm NOT in the wrong thread!
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Add some Hitchcock suspense thrillers like The 39 Steps and Psycho.

Did you watch the original 1939 version of 39 Steps? And the original Psycho, from 1960?

By the way, you'll probably also want to watch Rashomon. Not only a good film, but the premise has been used in magic & mentalism when explaining DR type of effects.

Hitchcock's "The Birds." Also, as an aside, there's another thread out there about TV shows with a hidden or inside message. But for movies, you might not know that it was common to see Alfred Hitchcock in several of his movies in very quick cameos. They can be fun to watch just to find him. Usually it's early in the picture if my memory serves me. I'm pretty sure he was in The Birds, Psycho and some others.

I second the Basil Rathbone/Nigel Bruce Sherlock Holmes movies, 1939 through the rest of the 40's, or thereabout.
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".
