I have tried it both ways and I always get better response using a lady from the audience. Second, the worry of the lady spilling the beans, just does NOT happen. I have done this for more than 30 years. The key is in how you treat the lady and what you say. Here is how to ensure she will not spill the beans. Behind the right screen I have a sign that says, PLEASE KEEP THIS A SECRET SO YOUR FRIENDS WILL BE AMAZED. When she steps out from behind the screen, I say, "Cindy, that was amazing. I can't believe you did that. Please do not tell anyone how you were able to squeeze into that house. Wasn't she great folks? Give her a round of applause. The woman feels great, she just got a big round of applause for doing the impossible, you have asked her to not tell anyone how she did it. I have found that no woman wants to ruin the illusion that she CREATED. She is special. For her to tip the secret would shatter the image she just created. I have found the woman never spills the beans. |

If I may add to Devins' comments. My show has lots of audiance particpation and in some cases I will use an instant assistant from the audiance. I have found for the vast majority they do not tell anyone and are more than happy to help. When I look for a person to help me I look for people who have made eye contact with me and have smiled as I was performing and seem to really be enjoying the show with a great interest. I have been very successful so far with getting the right people to assist me.

If you come across as a likeable performer and don't put volunteers down, like some performers do, then the lady assistant will be more than happy to keep your secret.

I did it and it workerd brilliantly, all of the audience were so focussed on the cards going across that they totally were gobsmacked when the person went across as well becausethey didn't know that was going to happen, I used jumbo size cards and a mini card box if any one wants to use the idea too

Just downloaded the manuscript last night. Wondering if there are any videos of an actual performance anywhere?

Karl...have you sent the idea in detail to Devin? He might want to add it to the Mss or otherwise make it available to purchasers. It sounds like this principle/concept has room to grow.
