I do worry about injuries involved with various inductions. Mostly because I know how easy it can be to injure my own shoulder and/or lower back. I could be fine when I go up on stage, but one wrong tweak of the arm, or laying me out just a little off and I could be having a very bad few days afterward.
Of course, I've seen the guys who do in-chair inductions have people slip out in ways that could leave someone like me hurting as well. Even when giving suggestions like, "You will be completely stuck to the chair". Not criticizing, of course. Really just thinking 'out loud' as it were.

If someone is that loose if the velcro chair doesn't work I cut them loose. I don't let them slip out like that. You are right.

I would imagine someone has been hurt at some point with every method. No matter how safe you are it is always taking a risk when you work with the public. You can minimize risks but you can't eliminate them. Just getting people to jump about or dance to music can cause an injury. Its not just the induction.
Personally I am not even 100% certain that hypnosis on stage is totally safe for 100% of the population. Whenever you work with people you are taking a risk. But also if you volunteer you are also taking a risk. Life would not be worth living if we took no risks! I done my back in last year just bending over to pick up a cup! I was out for three months! |

Taking risks is one thing. Unnecessary rial is another.

Doing stage shows are unnecessary risks. Volunteering is an unnecessary risk. But I agree with you. I just don't see it as that much more of a risk. But at the same time I wouldn't ever do it with an older person or someone who had some kind of physical problem. In fact I won't have either on stage in the first place. Its all academic now anyway as I rarely do shows. I did another version of that technique when I done the odd demonstration for business people. I would have a chair behind them and I was behind the chair so they melted into the chair instead of going all the way to the floor.
I can imagine with your demographic you have to be extra careful a lot of the time. And I would probably adjust my show accordingly and agree with you 100% if I was in your shoes. |
