Hi, I am going to get one of these dvds tomorrow but I need some advice. They are both rope dvds but which do you think is better? One of the Tabary dvds or Ring Leader? From what I've read, Tabary's teaches several effects and Ring Leader teaches one but Ring Leader has a full routine and seems very amazing. Which do you think gets better reactions? Also for ring leader do you have to rest your hand on the spectators to get the ring there because the reviews say that one guy was scared to perform it because the moves are obvious and I'm not comforatable with touching the spectators. Thanks in advance.

I might be a bit confused but isn't Ringleader a ring and string routine and Tabary a rope rouitne?
If this is so then you are looking at two different effects. So it depends on what type of effect you are wanting to learn. If it is a rope routine then Tarbary would be good but if it is a ring and string routine then Ring leader would be the way to go. Hope this helps SHawn D |

Ring Leader from Greg Wilson is not available in DVD and is not a rope DVD. It's over moves with a wedding ring and a velvet cord. Lots of moves. Very interesting.

The guy who is scared because he thinks the moves are obvious in Ringleader is because he thinks the audience knows what is about to happen...
They don't. I have been caught once with one particular move, but I shrugged it off and made sure to practice more. It was purely my own fault...shame on me You can't think about the moves in the ringleader routine...you just have to DO them while acting...your acting sells the routine and makes it personal. Concentration telegraphs suspicious moves...strive to make the moves your own as well as smooth. If you present it as comedy and act just as surprised as your spectator when the ring comes on and off then they won't be trying to catch you, they'll join in on the fun. Practice makes this routine magical...the comment you read from the guy who bought Ringleader seems to suggest he wants instant success with magic. Magic, despite popular belief, is not "easy to master" If an effect is easy, master the handling and work on presentation. If it is hard, be patient. You will love Ringleader, trust me.

It depends if you want something for stage or for more intimate setting. Tabary's fism rope act is really stage oriented and his mannerism is not for everybody ( wich doesn't mean that it's not worth of study...). If you're a beginner, I think you'll get more from the second dvd from Tabary or from Ring Leader.

Sorry, I thought that Ring Leader was a dvd and even though one is a rope and one is a ring and string, I thought they were similar because they both had to do with rope (or string if you want to get technical). Actually I have three choices but the third is nothing like the other two. I am going to get either the Tabary dvd (one of them), Ring Leader, or Table Hopping cups and balls. So now I have it down to either Table Hopping cups and balls or Ring Leader. And I know that they are different items, but I just want to know which gets better reactions. Like generally the Invisible Deck gets better reactions than the 21 Card Trick. |

There is more interest to a spectator when you borrow and handle their piece of jewelry, plus, Gregory Wilson's style is awesome.

True...but a good Two cup routine is hard to beat. I myself do a very fun chop cup routine...It's a hard decision. If you're interested in learning a piece of magic you can do almost anytime then go with RingLeader...it's not just ONE routine. There are about 5 different routines and about 40 different ring on/off string moves explained. I've seen THC+B demo and it looks nice but if you're table hopping, I suggest using only a single chop cup as opposed to 2 cups. Just my preference though. I CAN tell you that the stronger of the two in my opinion and my choice would be the cup routine because it's more entertaining and engaging to the spectators, and there is more surprise. But, I also do love Ring Leader. Best bet for you would be start off with the THC+B and buy ring leader later, but definately get it.

They are both good. You will probably do the Ring Leader effects more often than Tabary's rope routine so if I were to pick one for you it would be Ringleader.

I would agree with Larry. When I first started buying magic videos Tarbary was one of the first videos I bought. Great routine but I have never learned or done the routine.
I have Bob Millers ring and string routine and I do this routine every strolling event and at the restarunt I work. Same with the cups and balls.I have Carls Andrews cups and balls and do this trick all the time and love adding all my own stuff to it and changing it up. Great routine. I would say break down and buy them both. Shawn D |

There will be a variation of Tabary's routine coming out that is UNBELIEVABLY good and much better than the original in my opinion. As a jaded old dork, I don't dish out praise like this frequently. More later.

There is a fantastic ring and string routine on Tabary's rope video tapes. I do it all the time. I do not have the Wilson dvd, tho.
