Let's separate the effect on the spectator you do the effect on and the effect on the whole audience.
In mentalism, a lot of times we sacrifice the effect on the spectator to satisfy the audience - many dual reality effects are relying on this (true there are some which look impossible to the spec himself AND to the audience - but they are hard to find gems). In Suggestive effects, usually(!) the person who "feels" most of the effect is one or two. So, for close up work or informal situations I would not hesitate to use suggestion based effect, but if I want something bigger, I would go with traditional mentalism methods. An exception would be a TV show (since I don't have my own TV show I just speculate here). But it seems to me that suggestive effects can be very well transfered through the medium of TV (given a good performer, editor and director). Just my opinion... N |

This is an interesting insight Nir... suggestive effects are indeed kind of the opposite of dual reality effects for this matter.

Funny how people's opinions differ...I personally think that Luke is one of the best mentalists I have seen!
His performances are calm and controlling, allowing the effect to shine through. I feel this is him mixing the power of silence in suggestion and at the same time giving the effect the respect it deserves. I don't think I need to say anymore as the man's creativity, originality...speak for themselves, but definitley one of my, and many many other's, favourite things about him is his style. I learned a lot from just getting to talk to him for a few days last month, and personally felt it was worth every moment! Conditions for the DVD may not have been perfect, however, I believe he has a stage show in the works and I already know he is going to blow a lot of people away. C.

Hi, I just got the DVD and a few people had been mentioning the ropy film quality, but has anyone else noted the dubbing track is realy out of sink with the visuals, or is it just my copy, it's really off-putting, however the effects are stunning, as many have said.

Just got back from England and saw Luke perform the pulse stopping effect on stage, in a close up situation and in his lecture. Each time it worked and each time it was brilliant. Amazing watching the magicians continually giving it a go in the hallways, elevators and restaurants.
In this version, Luke stopped his own pusle, stopped a spectators pulse then continued to STOP PULSES all over the audience. Reminded me of Geller stopping watches and bending keys all over the audiences. Absolutly wonderful. Great job Luke. Great meeting you. I agree the quality on the tape is not the best, but you get what you need off it to perfom the effects and the price is a bargain. IN thoughts Banachek

Hi everyone,
I have "Building Blocks" and I am thinking of buying "7 Deceptions", but I am not sure if instead I should buy the DVD. What do you recomend? Thanks. |

The first two phases are performed and explained on the DVD. The third phase involving the whole audience is not performed on the DVD (there was no real audience - only two persons Luke performed for) - but it is explained on the DVD.

Sorry it was not clear. In my post after telling Luke it was great meeting him, I then give a quick thing about the dvd. Everything mentioned about the effect was seen at the Convention live.
As someone has said, Luke works with two people on the dvd so no large audience work as seen in England last week. Hope that clears things up

Just watched that dvd. Put everything that Luke published into a great perspective.

The dvd really crystalizes all of the little nuances that go into a routine involving heavy suggestion.
