Looks good. Is this different from the version he taught in his Penguin lecture? Its been a while, but if I recall correctly, the display at the end wasnt possible in the lecture version. If it is an updated version, I have an idea of how he enhanced it which is clever. |

So Brent showed me this a few months ago and I was fooled. I immediately told him to set aside one for me. You get a fully gimmicked deck and a 20ish min instructional video. There is one thing you have to do when you get your deck, but it'll take less than 5 minutes. You won't need any crazy arts and crafts supplies at all. The routine is brilliant. This is one of the few gimmicked decks I own. Brent has really thought through everything to make this one of the best versions of ACAAN I've ever seen!

It seems like the deck is similar to the Mastermind Deck. This is a great trick.

To answer a couple of questions.
Yes this is similar to my routine CARD NUMBER DECK that can be found in my Penguin Live lecture. Position Impossible has the additional benefit of allowing you to show that had any of the other 51 numbers been named this wouldn't have worked. This creates a very theatrically strong moment in the routine. I always found this moment missing in CARD NUMBER DECK not methodologically but theatrically. Also as a Bonus I teach the original CARD NUMBER DECK handling in the Position Impossible instructions. This deck is a lot like the Mastermind deck. So much so that Chris Kenworthey was a huge part of being able to bring this effect to market. He was able to supply me with the decks and then Jeremy Hanrahan custom gimmicked each deck before my wife hand sorted them all. I only mention all of this because I never thought I would be able to bring this deck to market but because all these amazing people got involved we were able to make a very limited run and once these are gone they may never be made again. Things to keep in mind. The cards are out of your hands and spread on the table before they name or even think of any number. Even though the cards are out of your control, the card is always at that exact number they name. With no displacement or touching the cards. Its not one before not one after but always at the exact number. No memorization, No math, No sleight of hand, No sneaky moves, No rough and smooth, They can even count. This routine has so many layers it truly is impossible. I have been using a custom one off version of this to close my shows for years and its nice to finally be able to make it available. If anyone has any questions let me know and I will try and answer them. Thanks, Brent Braun |

Saw this on FB a while back and loved it (I'm an ACAAN addict.)
Looked for it at Penguin and then scoured the internet but couldn't find anything about it. Even checked back at Penguin every now and then. So suffice to say I've been anxiously awaiting this release and am so glad to see it's finally here. |

This is not ANY card at any number. This is card at any number. A massive difference. Cannot be repeated. You can do the exact effect (in the spectators eyes) with a standard monte cristo deck aka mastermind deck.

Not sure I would call it a massive difference but I am aware this is a touchy subject to some magicians. But you're right it's technically not an ACAAN, but I enjoy all the variations on the basic plot. This really isn't a trick you would purposely repeat so that's a moot point IMO. But I agree that it wouldn't be good in situations where people may watch it a second time unbeknownst to you or beyond your control. There are several gimmicked decks that would allow you to achieve a similar effect but none of them would look as clean as this, including a Monte Cristo deck. But I digress, I came on here to post a mini review. Still waiting for the actual deck to arrive but I just watched the download and I absolutely LOVE it!!! Which is a big relief because it's such a drag when you watch an instant download and the trick totally sucks and then you still have to wait a few days for the main prop to show up, knowing you no longer even want it and hoping it gets lost in the mail. Fortunately, that won't be the case with this. Brent does a great job of teaching his routine and covers everything really thoroughly. My only minor complaint is he talks pretty fast. It doesn't hinder the learning experience, it just made me feel like he was late for another appointment or something. But that is more than made up for by the way he explains everything so well without any verbal gaffs, at least that I caught. The deck is gaffed in a really cool and clever way by combining a couple principles together. This is what allows the routine to look so fair. I have never seen a deck quite like this before, and although I'm by no means a magic historian I have owned and used most gaffed decks out there. If you think you know how it's done, chances are there is more going on here than you think. Brent has incorporated some really excellent subtleties as well that add to the cleanliness and fairness. You can tell he's performed this a lot because he has answers for everything, even questions you didn't think of yet. It's really well thought out, one of the few things I've purchased where you feel like he's thought of everything. His routine is really good IMO, because you know how so many (A)CAAN routines can be amazing but also boring as hell. His moves quickly and has some nice theatrical moments if you're doing it on a stage or parlor. He teaches a close-up version as well. Actually about the only difference is the close up version ends reset if you're table hopping. Brent's routine involves 2 spectators but you could also perform it one on one, or with a large group and get several spectators involved. I can totally see using this routine to close a card set by using Cold Case or otherwise switching in this deck and it would be killer. Since I haven't gotten the deck yet I can't comment on it's quality but I am confident it will be very well made. Not associated with Brent or Penguin in any way, this just not only met my expectations, it far exceeded them. Some really great subtleties added to a combination of gaffs where each cancels out the other makes this something I would highly recommend if you like the effect as shown in the demo. I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. Nice Job Brent!!! I may like this as much as I like your Torched and Restored. (I guess this review wasn't so mini after all.) |

Please don't call this ACAAN This is misleading. The spectator does NOT think of any card.
This is a good version, though, although it use a gimmicked and completely unexaminable deck

This seems fantastic. In the video he asks her to stop at any card, and asks her if she's happy with her choice. If she had said no could he give her another choice?

Dear Mediocre Magician, (I laughed out loud as I typed that. So thank you for that.)
It's hard to answer this question without giving away a nice psychological touch that I discuss in the instructions. As many have pointed out this CAN'T be done with any card. In fact it has to be done with a very specific card. That being said I have included a nice psychological touch that allows you to really sell the idea of letting her select any card by allowing her to change her mind. Once after the dribble and then even a second time after she has seen the card. This strongly encourages the audience to believe that any card could have been selected. Which is a very important moment in the routine. As many have mentioned this isn't an "any card at any number" routine but to spectators in many ways its stronger because the card is never named out loud. With Position Impossible to spectators this is what happens: She looks at any card she wants, the cards are shuffled and placed on the table and then any number is thought/named after the cards are out of the magicians control. Her card really is at that exact number with no cuts, displacements, switches, or hiding of any cards. Its almost self working really. I hope that helps answer the question. If not message me and we can discuss the details a bit further in private. Thanks, Brent Braun |

This is fantastic! Mine arrived yesterday and I'm stoked about performing this. The handling is squeaky clean and it can be performed in virtually any setting. Brent does a great job with the teaching by showing different handlings for both parlor and close-up, and I devised a simple strategy so it can be used for strolling too. Theatrically, this looks better with the cards spread across the table but it goes to show you that with a little tweaking you can make this work in any environment. "Position Impossible" gets my vote as one of the top releases of 2016!

I am looking forward to mine. I do an impromptu ACAAN with a shuffled deck. I really love it and it is very strong.
However, this one is certainly up there with the very best "gimmicked" versions ever. I watched the download video as I am waiting to get the deck, and I think it is just brilliant. One comment/question: I am thinking that I am not going to mark my deck in any way. I think the "proving" can be done in a different way that doesn't require a marked deck. I know no one will notice the markings, I'm just thinking it isn't necessary. Anyone who has this probably knows what I'm talking about. Comments? KJ |

John,
I agree with you. I have so many CAAN versions and so many of them involve quite a bit of work to get them right, or, there is a gimmick involved and the routine isn't any better than my impromptu CAAN (Which isn't that difficult BTW). This one, however, while it involves a gimmicked deck and you can't repeat it or use the deck as a normal deck, is SO easy and yet SO powerful! If I am performing casually with a regular deck, I'll do my impromptu version, but if I'm going to perform prepared, I'm bringing this one. One note: You probably already thought about this, but given you can't hand out the deck for examination, I think you should be prepared to put the deck away and do something else. I would follow this up with something like a coin trick and plan on keeping a second deck in my pocket. KJ |
