A review by Danny Hustle:
Review Quentin Reynolds Being Back The Schtick DVD I recently received a copy of Quentin Reynold's new DVD Bring Back The Schtick. It would not be an overstatement that for the professional Children's entertainer this may very well be the most important DVD ever produced. First off Mr. Reynolds is what we used to call in my old neighborhood, “The genuine article”. This is a man who has invested a lifetime into entertaining people, all people. That being said, it should come as no surprise, that along with his wonderful performing abilities he has a near encyclopedic mind and has always been a serious student of his craft. These DVDs are filled with some wonderful tricks, and the resurrection of some truly magical ancient gems. The strength of this DVD however in my opinion is Mr. Reynolds generosity in sharing the lifetime of wisdom he has gathered in a career that has taken him all over the world and created joy and merriment for thousands of children. Mr. Reynolds takes the silly very seriously. He explains many of the hows and whys, he takes us through old books that at first glance some might call dated or no longer relevant and shows exactly where they are timeless and how to extract the hidden pearls of wisdom contained within. These DVDs are terrific for someone just starting out in this career path of entertaining children, but it may be even more important to the old pros who are looking to dig little deeper into what they are doing. I know I got quite a bit out of it and I all ready owned many of the books Mr. Reynolds references in the interview section. This is a two DVD set, it is not something you will take in with one sitting. The first DVD contains Mr. Reynolds performing some favorites and discussing the pertinent performance points of each routine. There is some terrific stuff here. If you are also a family entertainer and do adult shows as well you will see right away how much of this can also be applied to any performance and not just magic for Children. The second DVD is an interview with the wonderful Tamar Kimmons who is also a terrific Children's entertainer. In this second DVD it is absolutely chock full of worthwhile information. I suggest taking notes, and tracking down as many of the books referenced as possible. I was pleasantly surprised to see Len Belcher's Choo-Choo on this DVD as I have been doing a variation of it as a warm up in my kid shows for couple of years now and have even adapted it for adults. The additions by Bob Ostin that are shared really take it from a simple bit of business to something truly wonderful. I was very, very, impressed with this set and highly recommend them to anyone who performs magic for children. They are truly wonderful. |

Just finished watching Quentin's (Bring back The Schtick).
Wow! It's the best selection of routines ever put together on children magic I'd ever seen.. I've always maintained that what magician wants is a dvd that is chuck full of entertaining routines rather than the business of magic. It's all here folks. Most of these routines are ready for your shows and if you are any kind of a decent performer, you are on your way to good things. Kudos to Quentin. Tricky Ricky |

But, knowing Quentin, I KNEW that it was going to be "FOUR HOURS OF FUN" when I got the sound fixed. IT WAS! I started doing school shows in 1945. I learned from the "old pro's." in the business. Now, I'm an "old pro.", and, I regard Quentin Reynolds as one of "us"! His earlier dvd (5 minutes with a handkerchief) was a real GEM. (I'm a "believer" in "packs small--PLAYS BIG"!) I was about to sit down at this "infernal electrisch peckenclacker". and write a review. Then, DANNY HUSTLE DID IT FOR ME! There's no way that I can even begin to "top" Danny's post above!!! If YOU perform for youngsters and/or family groups, (ESPECIALLY if you are a new performer!) "BRING BACK THE SCHTICK" is an EXCELLENT INVESTMENT --IT WILL DEFINITELY PAY DIVIDENDS!

Very well said Dick! I can't top Danny Hustles review either but I will add that I loved the premise Quentin uses for the Silver Sceptre prop. He also does away with the polishing bit which I never liked.
Really great to hear the stories from performers of 'yesteryear' as well. Highly recommended and available from Practical Magic if you are near England.

Many people have asked me about the availability of Lovey Duck, one of the routines on the DVD set. It is an ideal routine for the under 5's.
It is now available from Practical Magic with updated artwork. The version I use on the DVD set, and which is shown on the videoclip below, is the original Billy Day version. You can see a performance here http://www.practical-magic.com/video-dem......ey-duck2 |

My personal favorite is the A,B,C Blocks with the green block disappearing from the middle, the red is literaly hanging in the air!
Magicien pour fête d'enfants
In my more than 25 years of doing magic, I have re-discovered that the most magical audiences are children. They make the best audiences because they don't hide their surprise, or joy, or happiness: all of which, my Magic show will bring to life. |

A few months ago, my four-year-old daughter was sick for several days. Just one of those lingering, miserable, cruddy-feeling situations. Those are the times we break out the little portable DVD player and the kid DVDs. Can you guess what she wanted to see? Over and over and over?
Yep. Quentin Reynolds. And the Ducky routine is her favorite part. I had to say "quack, quack, quack, quack, quack, diddle, quack, quack" so many times I will never forget it. I remain grateful to Quentin for this wonderful DVD. -Patrick |

If you haven't got Quentin's DVD SET as yet--you are missing out big time. It's one of the best yet.
The only books that I have in my collection is the late Eric Sharp--Open Sesame--Silly Billy and Dick Oslund .the only DVD set I have is of Quentin and that's a good one. Tricky Ricky |

Penguin estimates they'll have this DVD back in stock February 28th. I see other sites also list it as out-of-stock.
I can wait to buy it, but am curious if anyone knows other US sources for this product? This is the only place I can find it - sometimes it's hard to tell where a seller is located. From the FAQ's it looks like they ship some items from the US. https://www.mystiquefactory.com/products......reynolds |
