I've done a few of these now (2 children's birthday having one joint party) and would be interested to hear other people thoughts. I don't actually mind doing a joint birthday party, although I do have the slight extra expense of another "main prize" for the birthday child. However, my wife seems to think I should charge more. Comments anyone?

I don't think I would charge more. That would be like increasing your fees for the amount of people who would be attending. I will charge more for a larger venue. If it's 25 kids at a birthday party at home, that's slightly different from 100 kids at a big auditorium where I'll need a sound system.

Parents do not have any problem with this notion. They understand that if they choose to invite more children, there will be extra costs all around. Keeblem - I do lots of double birthdays. I give two magic kits as presents, and also two fancy balloon hats (not every child gets those, just the birthday child), but have at times questioned this generousity, because my package really does only include ONE set of items for the one birthday child. However, most often at double birthdays, I am tipped, so it works out for me in the end. - Donald.

The most I've done is 4 birthday kids at the one party, 2 were twins. There was 30 kids in total at the party. I don't charge any more.

I once did a show in NYC where there where SIX birthday kids celebrating their birthday together. A total of about 25 kids were at the party. (not irregular) I didn't charge anything extra because of the number of birthday kids. But then again I don't give out magic sets as gifts. My only challenge was remembering all of their names when they wanted to help in the show! I did talk the parents in to booking me for an hour and a half as opposed to an hour because of the supposed scope of doing a sextuplet birthday, so I made out well in the end.
TWO birthday children as opposed to ONE doesn't seem as much of a criteria to bump up your price as say the total amount of children at the party. Twelve verses forty for example. But even then I personally don't jack it up. Think of all the prospective gigs when the kids see that you are the worlds most amazing and FUNNIEST magician, right?

Have had many double and one triple party. I also charge in multiples of 15 kids so there is no change in what they would be charged. I just eat the cost of the additional "Magicians Gift". It's good P.R.

Just took a booking today for triplets, I didn't charge any extra. All it means is instead of picking guests to help with the show and the birthday kid doing a special trick at the end. I just use the birthday kids as the helpers during the show.
A lot of mums do joint parties as they can't afford it on their own. If I charged more just because there is more than one birthday child it could work against me in the long run. The only time I charge extra is when you get someone who wants to invite the whole world to the party. Once they go over 35 kids I charge more.

I did a triple bar mitzvah once. THAT was interesting!
I didn't charge extra though. BTW - The best laugh I got was when I asked the Rabbi if it was OK to have Bacon at a Bar Mitzvah.

I have done and will do again next Jan a triple birthday for the 4th year in a row, this year will be the first magic show, before was just balloons and close-up for the adults. I do charge more for the multiples but that is just for the giveaways. If it is just a balloon party no extra charge. I also have to say I try ( and that is a good try) not to raise my prices for the repeat customer. I have been the same for the triples for three years and probably will stay the same next year.

I to have done a party with three b-day kids. I agree with the others. The only reason I upped the price was because they were expecting 50 kids and wanted balloon animals. Therefore, I charged more. But I wouldn't charge extra if there were 20 or less kids, even if all twenty were b-day kids because its the same show.

Here in Atlanta it seems that we count the kids in groups of 15. And the reason for charging more for 30 as opposed to 15 is not really the magic which basically stays the same but all parties seem to get either BA or FP and more kids IS more time and materials.

When I raise my prices everyone pays the new price, if I didn't I'd lose over £40 a show for people that first booked me years ago. As I've got bookings coming up in my diary that were booked last year before my last price increase. The booker booked me again right after I did the show. That means in one day I can get £110 for 1 party and only £95 for the next. Even though I was happy with £95 last year when this happens it causes a small phycological hurdle as I feel I'm doing a cheapy.

When I raise my rates, I usually do it for the start of the new year and in this case everyone pays the new rate. However, I can use coupons and discounts aimed towards my past clients as incentives for them to contact me again to rebook or as a reward from them for being a preferred customer.

When I decide to increase prices I pick a date a couple of months in the future say 1st June, and the any bookings that come in from that date onwards get charged at the new price. Any inquiries for shows before June get quoted the old price.
This gives me the time to test the water and see whether the bookers will pay the new price. If I find I've over stepped the mark and I'm getting too many refusals I can then revert back to the old price while there is still time to get more bookings in for June. If I find that I'm getting little or no refusals at the new price and June is filling up nicely I then make a decision and start charging all new bookers the new price straight away rather than just those after June. I don't offer discounts or coupons as I rely solely on my good looks and Charm to win the clients over.

I just did a show, where the parent wanted to add an extra birthday child, making it a double party. They paid me for a larger number of children, and also paid me for an additional magic kit (I got tipped as well). The first magic kit is free.
I booked a birthday show for the end of the month, and the mom just called and asked if she could change it to a triple birthday party. Again, she is paying me for the extra two magic kits. I am not charging any extra for the balloon hats (I said earlier in this thread that I make them for the birthday child/ren only). I am still doing the personalized trick, but make sure that all 2 or 3 children are in the same photo, because I'll only do one personalized trick per birthday show. - Donald.

Sorry to have posted a similar thread in this forum, I didn't realize this topic was here. Anyway, I have a birthday party for triplets this weekend, and I did not charge anything more than my usual party rate. The party is somewhat bigger than the average for me, because each of the 3 triplets got to invite an equal amount of classmates, resulting in a large party. So I am sure that this show will result in a few future gigs for me.
