I can see how the title may have misled you. The Genii article is called, "Becoming Hanussen: Creating and Performing 'Palace of the Occult.'"

But contrary to how it sounds, it isn't actually an eight-page dissertation about any impersonation. (Given that one could barely write a single page on Kevin Spacey's impersonation of Christopher Walken, there simply has to be more to the article than that.)

The focus of the article is on the challenge of successfully translating the life story of Hanussen into a 90-minute, two-act piece of theatre. For performers of mentalism, this information could be eye-opening, as it shows how one can take the mentalist's repertoire and place it in a theatrical context that is potentially richer and more emotionally resonant than the standard mind-reading act.

It also relates how the adaptation process included taking a critical look at both Hanussen biographies (by Gordon and Magida). As it turns out, there are areas in which I found both authors somewhat missing the mark, leading me to new insights into Hanussen's character; these insights may be of considerable interest to mentalism historians who thought they knew everything about the subject.
