Brilliant forum...this is my first post... NEED HELP!! I Have this fantastic new stage effect... that is all practised ...and I am ready to go with... but for life of me can't think of very suitable patter to go with effect...

This is the effect : 3 members of the audience come and choose a card each ... I take back 2 of the cars and shuffle them back in the deck... and with one of the members a corner is torn off his card which he keeps and his card is shuffled in to the deck. Now I take a small paper bag and drop the cards in to it. The paper bag is placed on the floor in the middle of the stage....now I bring out a large steel sword... and on my command ( EXACTLY on my command the cards founting out of the bag at least 8 feet in the air... I plunge the sword in to the cards and impail the 3 cards on the sword...the first 2 cards are ripped off the sword and given to the volunteers...and the third one ( with ripped corner) is shown to be an exact match to the corner being held. (phew)

My stage logo is "Seeing is NOT believing" so if that can be included ...great... see what you can come up with...at the moment I have a patter block !!!

A sword! What a way to cut the deck! Is that why the cards fountain away... to escape?
...to all the coins I've dropped here

Well you could do a hostage negotiation theme and say could say something about taking 'a quick stab' at finding the criminal and then bring out the sword.

Then say "don't worry I have police training at card hostage negotiation. Well at least the hostages aren't worried..." (at this point they fountain up in panic and you stab your three shouting "come back you cowards!"). Then say "see I told I was trained, it only took three cards before I got the right one... obviously the other two were accomplices" (tongue in cheek at this point is probably good)

Then open an envelope naming the three, ask the volunteer to read it out and say "Aha, definite evidence, I told I was well trained." Take your applause.

It may be in dubious taste at some venues, but it could work if you sell it well. Depends on your act and what you can get away with.
May your fingers never lose their deftness,

May your tongue always lead them down the garden path...

Some of the best advice I've received is to think about what it is about the effect that appeals to you. Why do you want to do this effect...what do you find interesting or exciting about it? What types of emotions do you associate with that effect? Answer those questions, and shape your presentation around that.
