Hi I want to perform a close up L*nking Ri**s routine , just wondering if anyone has experience with the product linked here. I have seen the ninja + rings , but I just want a set of rings to perform ninja rings as Shoot Ogawa does.

Additionally if anyone knows if the single ring included would be appropriate for doing a ring and role routine for a different set that would be helpful to know too. By the looks of the set it would be ok but doesn't hurt to ask.

Just realised that "the product linked here" could have been a terrible pun lol

I do a modified version of Shoots routine...I use a set from a magicians collection who passed away a few years ago. The Prop Dog set looks very nice and should fit the bill for what you are planning to perform. Quite honestly, the price is quite steep. When I worked behind the counter of a local magic shop I would demo a cheap version of the close up linking rings (L*nking Ri**s?) which cost about $11.00. The reactions were the same as what you would get with any set as long as you put in the necessary practice IMHO.

By the way, even though I don't include many of the flourishy moves that Shoot shares in his routine, the rings are always the crowd favorite wherever I perform.

I can really get behind those thoughts. I performed the McAbee rings for ages and those looked liked cheap bangles.
Often times mouthes would be gaping when the last unlink happened. Truthfully expensive rings is often in the head of the performer.

Isn't the PropDog product a ma***** locking k**? If so, then it is well worth the price.

Yes...I suppose the price is worth it given the added feature of a ma***** locking k** (figure that one out lurkers!!!). I cant comment on the pros and cons of using rings that have a ma***** locking k** ...never used them before.

Matthew Garrett rings use the standard linking approach and are very similar to Shoots rings (I have both). Frankly, disappointed in the quality of the rings - they are chrome and I woukd have expected stainless at that price.

The DVD is good. Garrett DVD is basic and has a stated goal of having you perform the next day for friends (very aggressive to my mind!). Shoot DVD is a very sophisticated, difficult routine that takes hours of practice.

The combination of the two DVDs would be great to build an amazing close up ring routine.

Footnote: First, I never show someone a routine until I've practiced it every day for a month. Then I have test audiences I use before it goes into either my stage or close up shows. I would never open a box and try something in my next show! Second, I always search out as many references I can find for a trick to see how different magicians have approached it. Then I can make an informed decision on what works best for me. I woukd rather spend a couple hundred $ today and build a routine that I will perform for the next 10, 20, or 30 years (okay 30 years is stretching it at my age now!) than to save $100 and perform a subpar (for me) routine for the rest of my life.

I have the Garrett rings and they are nice. The main advantage for me of these rings over the cheap rings is the absence of a join in the rings. I can't even find where they would have been joined. This used to be a weak point for me as when performing for teenagers they would see the seam and claim I was somehow using it, so now I can make the absence of one a feature in my presentation.
However, I believe they are plated and my friend had a set that were starting to wear. I now only use them for professional performances.

As to the DVD, it is a beginner dvd designed to get people started. He has 3 other dvds on ring magic with much much more in and his ninja rings+ is a great innovation. One of the nicest dealers at Blackpool and very good customer service - if you had any issues, I'm sure he would help.

Hmm seems like everyone has varying opinions, makes a change! ;-) .

Thanks for all everyone's advice, I'm going to buy a cheap set for 15 or so pounds to use to practice and if I begin to perform it I'll consider a more expensive set.

Cheers

The rings in question are fine but not nearly as nice as the real ninja rings.

Personally, I like the Empire $10 set better.

I vaguely remember seeing a Royal magic version in the uk a while ago. I'd sooner have a cheaper set I can do crash links and hand linked rings to people in bars etc than have a really expensive set to worry about. Worst that could happen is replacing the set after half a year or so I guess anyway. I do wonder if people would be suspicious of the seam but in a sense it may even throw them off of the real secret?

You don't want something that obvious throwing them off the secret. They will accept that as the real secret, and therefore not be amazed. My empire magic set doesn't have seams though.

My Empire Rings are seamless as well. Once you have a decent routine and can perform it flawlessly, even those who come to the only conclusion as to how its done (the right conclusion!) they are still baffled!!

The Royal rings and the Empire rings are about the same price.
The Royal rings suck.
The Empire rings are way better.

Neither as nice as the Ninja Rings.

If I were to rate those in question:

Empire
Ninja+
Royal

In my humble opinion the McAbee Rings are the very best for Close-Up Linking Rings Effect.
