My latest e-Book for the Magic Nook is a re-thinking of Ken Allen's Jumping Gems combined with Jim Zee's Hot Rod using technology that just wasn't available in the 1960's-70's when those magic props first appeared. My version can be found in The Wizards' Journal #32 if anyone is interested. You have to make it yourself, but it's a kitchen workshop kind of thing with no power tools needed unless you insist. The biggest feature is that you start by handing a plain stick to a spectator, end up with a colorful gem studded Hot Rod, and finish by making all the gems vanish and dropping the original stick back in the spectator's hand...as one possible routine goes...there are others.
