How important is the thickness of the coins used for this routine ie do you think it would be ok to use coins that are the same thickness as American half dollars ?
I know originally Troy recommended thin coins however since the routine has become popular and other variations have come about I've noticed that people have been using dollar size coins which I would presume to be thicker than the coins originally recommended ? Thanks. |

The coins that Lance Pierce supplies for his version of the routine are larger than dollars, but I find that they work perfectly for either routine. As long as they slide against each other fairly easily, they should be fine.

I have been working on the Apollo variation that comes with Troy's DVD. I chose half-dollar sized coins because they seemed to work better and are more visible. It is helpful to have a heavier coin to do the move. I have not yet worked on Troy's versions.

Thanks for the replies it's most appreciated but just in case I have worded it wrong I'm asking about the coins thickness as opposed to the actual size of the coins used , the reason I mentioned the dollar size coins was because the dollar size coins would be thicker than the half dollar size coins

Seems to me that I recall Troy saying that thinner coins are easier to use. I purchased a set way back, but don't recall the maker. They are about half the thickness of Johnson Chinese coins. They make things easier because they slide against/between other coins without hang up.
Sorry to say, even without checking at home, I already know that I don't remember the coin manufacturer. Maybe someone here can ring in to help (did you see what I did there?). Best wishes for a successful search. Jim

Another consideration is what other effect will be in the routine? If you wish to transition to Coins Across effect, for example,
the ideal coins for CCC is what works before or after. If I wish to include a C/S type effect, the CCC coins are forced by the matching gaff.

Hi Warren,
Don't worry about thickness. I use Australian dollars about the size of an American dollar. They are visible for a large crowd. They are rather thick, but that has never been a problem. I have changed the routine a few places though, so that I both begin and end clean. Best regards, Steen |

Thanks Steen that's good to hear, I have some of the thinner recommended Chinese coins but also have what I consider to be nicer looking Chinese coins but they are thicker than those recommended so thought it wise to get some feed back

The coins used by Troy are sterling

I have the sterling coins already, what I was asking about was if using thicker coins made any difference to the effect especially the in the hands finish.

No it does not make a difference.

I think thin coins make it a little easier but so do heavier coins so you can't really win. The coins that Josh Jay sells with the version he put out are super thin, super light "real" Chinese coins that are the size of dollar.
