Creator: Mel Mellers Publisher: Magicseen Magazine MSRP: $ 65 Skill Level: working professional Book Length: 148 pages / full color with photographs Type of effect: Parlor & Comedy Magic book Manufacturer's Write Up: With his hilariously sharp yet playful put down lines and quirky comedy plots, Mel Mellers has rightly established himself as one of the nation's favorite stand up performers. Equally at home in front of lay people or a theater full of magicians, Mel's individual performance style, which has been honed over many years as a pro and through countless performances all over the world, is a delight to experience. Now you can go behind the scenes with this truly inspiring performer and learn how you too can become a top flight entertainer. Mel gives freely of his advice on all aspects of performance, including audience management, misdirection, how to put an act together, creativity, the 6 rules of comedy, practicing, hecklers and entertaining children and families. He shares with you scores of hilarious one liners covering all manners of performing situations that you will be able to use in your shows too. Plus he gives full details of over 50 of his feature routines and ideas, most of which are simple to do and which come with Mel's presentations and patter lines. Mel Mellers is one of magic's real larger-than-life characters, and this book will also explain some of his background, give you various anecdotes from his closest friends in magic about the antics that Mel has gotten into over the years, and will provide you with a thoroughly entertaining and instructive read. How accurate is the ad copy? The book is really that good What's in the box? It's just the book Key points: 148 pages, soft-back, produced in color throughout and featuring routines, comedy lines and advice from the UK's top comedy performer How are the production values: This is a full color book with beautiful layouts and photographs. Is it well made: Nicely bound - soft back - 7.5 x 10 inches Is it well taught: Mel's book is clearly for the working professional, especially if you're style is filled with humor and you tend to work parlor or stage. I would argue the strongest content of this book are the jokes and routines - because Mel isn't holding your hand through the instructions - most of the write ups are only 1 or 2 pages Overall score: let's toss out the traditional score of 1-10 and make this something that we all can appreciate and understand. X Very Satisfied _____ Somewhat Satisfied _____ Neither Satisfied or Dissatisfied _____ Somewhat Dissatisfied _____ Very Dissatisfied _____ No Opinion I gave it the highest score - even though this book is "not for me" it's not my humor style nor my performance venue - but I can read and recognize the quality and level of excellence that has gone into this product from a mile away. If this is your speed - you're going to love this. + Hey do you want to see my full review with even more of my opinions and ideas?
