I forgot to add that there was this guy who did escapes, a long time ago, about 28 years or so.
He had someone dig a hole, (like a grave), and he was placed into a clear plastic coffin. They dumped concrete in on top of him and of course the coffin caved in and it crushed and suffocated him. Not a smart thing to do.

Washington Irving Bishop was a mentalist who collapsed while performing on May 12, 1889 and died shortly afterward:
http://geniimagazine.com/wiki/index.php?......g_Bishop The circumstances surrounding his death were controversial. Bishop was given an autopsy shortly after his collapse since he appeared dead. His mother insisted that he had merely fallen into a deep catalepsy as had happened on previous occasions. There was supposed to be a note in his pocket explaining this but it was never found. |

Dr. Jacob Daley died not during a performance but shortly after having finished his set. Quote from Magicpedia: "He died suddenly following a luncheon show before the Art Directors Club, in New York where he had just finished performing a version of Vernon's The Travelers and his Cavorting Aces."

Pop Haydn mentions something in his Penguin magic lecture about a magician who performed at the magic castle and passed away immediately afterwards, sitting in an audience chair I think.......
I'm going to watch the lecture agin so if I find out more I'll let you know. Pretty sure that's where I heard the story. |

In this months issue of Genii, John Gaughan, in his Chamber of Secrets column discusses a a rising card effect from the massive magic collection of Swiss magician Adolph Blinde. Blinde died of a heart attack while performing a charity function in 1925.

Speaking of The Great Lafayette...Have any of you seen the glittering photograph of him in bed next to his canine companion, Beauty? It's in Jim Steinmeyer's fun read in depth book, "The Glorious Deception - The Double Life of William Robinson, aka Chung Ling Soo the Marvelous Chinese Conjurer". In it is a chapter about Lafayette the magician. The swagged and bejeweled bedroom photo appears a chapter or two later.
Original Old Town Magic Shop owner near Walt Disney World. Former Bozo the Clown in S.W. Ohio TV market. Was the founder and artistic director of Pinocchio's Maroionette Theater in Central Florida. Actor, writer, director, magic and spook show enthusiast.
