Detroit Red Wings great Gordie Howe, know as Mr. Hockey, has passed away at 88.
One of our greatest athletes and In my book the NHL's greatest player. So many great memories. He lived a good life. R.I.P. Gordie. We'll miss you. http://www.detroitnews.com/story/obituar......5689888/

Truly one of the three best ever NHL players. If not the best.

A couple of years ago Danny Doyle and I had a . . . um . . . friendly difference of opinion on the outcome of the LA Kings/Chicago Blackhawks playoff series.
As a result of that . . . um . . . friendly difference of opinion, Mr. Doyle was kind enough to provide me with a Blackhawks jersey of my choosing. (And two bottles of wine, chosen by his lovely bride.) I chose Gordie Howe's. May Gordie rest in peace. He was an icon. |

Good choice on the jersey.
Interesting Stat Wayne Gretzky (Last season/NHL): 9 goals, 53 assists, 62 pts, age 38 Gordie Howe (Last season/NHL): 15 goals, 26 assists, 41 pts He still had a scoring touch at age 52

It was nice to see Gordie's public visitation so well attended,
fittingly at The Joe, where the Red Wings Play. It was also nice to see folks like Wayne Gretzky, Steve Yzerman, Scotty Bowman and Gordie's long time friend, Detroit Tiger's Hall of Famer Al Kaline serving as Pallbearers. I like Gretzky's idea of retiring #9 throughout the league as they did with his #99. That would be a great Tribute.

As far as I know, Gordie Howe's entire NHL career was as a Detroit Red Wing, with the exception of his final NHL season, which was with the Hartford Whalers. He also spent approx. 6 seasons in the WHA after his playing career with the Red Wings ended (but prior to his final NHL season with Hartford), and finally one season in the IHL. The thought of Howe in a Blackhawks jersey would probably be taken as sacrilegious to Red Wings fans.

See that, even with pain killers he can make a smart decision.
