Recently I was sent an eBook to preview by Julian Moore and would like to give it a mention here as I think it covers some solid practical mentalism, which I seem to see less and less of these days (is it just me?)
The topic of the eBook is business card mentalism with five effects that only require business cards and a pen to execute. As I do a fair share of walk around close-up mentalism with business cards it was nice to see some different applications for them. Really enjoyed the effect that teaches an impromotu business card peek and the stage show use of business cards that utilises a large number of people and fills a stage. While not all of the premises were to my taste, the methods are solid and real-world workable. Not sure when it will be released but it is definitely worth a gander if you want to perform close-up mentalism using business cards. Cheers, Paul

Julian was so kind to send me a copy of The Business. I haven't performed all of the effects yet, but still wanted to post my thoughts on this great little ebook.
As Paul said, there are 5 effects: 4 are mentalism and one of them, IMHO, is pure magic. All of them are simple and direct. There are no groundbreaking methods or plots, but instead you'll find super practical routines that will get you great reactions. There's an interesting take on the 8 card brainwave, with a few nice subtleties thrown in. There's a fantastic ESP routine that went straight into my repertoire. A very nice and practical peek and a GREAT routine to perform for a crowd. There's also a neat transposition between two signed cards that will please those who like to throw in a bit of magic into their acts. Great material! So thank you, Julian, for sharing! |

Hey,
I just wanted to chime in with my opinion on this little booklet. I can honestly say that the material within this is very practical. If you are looking for groundbreaking and revolutionary methods, this is not for you but if you want some solid business card routines, then you should definitely check this out. Thanks, Rex |

Business cards are a versatile tool for Mentalism and to create networking. I use them daily and handing them in memorable manners is always appreciated.
Julian eBook is a fun collection of simple methods and interesting effects. My favorite from the list is the Drawing Duplication, clever thinking! Coincidentally I am also translating some of my favorites pieces with business cards, so this is for sure the business card time of the year! Best

Good ideas here, I especially like the Im-paired vision effect. I've been fascinated with this principle, and Julian has figured out a very cool and different way of applying it. I'm definitely going to perform it, though I may use ESP cards rather than business cards. The design dupe peek is a good thing to have in the toolbelt for very impromptu situations. Probably not going to perform any of the other effects personally, but the fact that I'm going to incorporate even one of the effects into my close up set makes it well worth the $20.

I was one of the 5 people who got lucky enough to get this for free a few days back (or is it weeks already?) when Julian was making the boo challenge.
I couldn't hold myself and just bought the Business+Post Justify bundle, because getting the business for free was ridiculous, and I just had to get rid of this shame. Since I am still in the trying around phase, I am buying a lot, trying a lot and either stuff is still too hard, or I just don't get it, or I think it is stupid (but knowing that I probably don't know enough), or I am too stupid, but this release...it is really amazing. The explanations are good and the accompaying videos are even better. Especially for the O***m Subtlety. It is nice too see the handling in action. So far I "only" tried out Duplicorner, and it just fries people's brains. It is just so fair all around, and the one dirty moment is impossible to notice if you don't know what to look for and even then, you would have to be positioned perfectly to see it. I carry it with me everytime, and this is something that looks so innocent. There is just no way, that this won't freeze the brain of the participant. You show the front and the back of the business card stack, there are no moves involved (you only pick up the stack, that is the only "move"). I love it. I just love it. The next thing I will try out, is the Im-Paired Vision, with the idea of Maarten from his ningthing-Review and use it with landmarks and cities. And probably other things that work in tandem like that and that can give you a match. (For some reason, like Maarten describes in his review, I cannot get myself too deliver the Dr. Rhine patter...maybe this will change. Is it worth the 20 Bucks. Yes. I paid far more for far less. This ebook is wonderfully priced. |

It's funny how different folks like different effects. I'm glad someone has tried out Duplicorner in real-life. It sounds like a crazy idea on paper, but in the hands it's easy and deceptive. And so simple. Glad you like it!
As Last Laugh mentioned I'm probably proudest of Im-Paired Vision as I too loved the principle involved and was excited to find a way to use it to its full potential. On a side note I have Amira's business card book to take a proper look at, as well as Paul Brook's new business card effect, so I promise I'll post a review of these this week! |

On the strength of other items I have bought from Julian, I knew The Business would contain some good thoughts - and it does.
In addition to some practical and very solid effects, what I especially valued were the video links to some of the 'moves.' This really allowed me to appreciate the deceptiveness of certain moves and with sleights that will be of continuing use. For the price and contents, a great purchase and highly recommended. Neil |
