Paradijs,
As far as I know there's no dvd covering this form of appearance. Many large objects need a different way (or props) to handle this kind of illusions. If you can specify what you want to show in the illusion, perhaps someone can guide you the right way. |

Unfortunately many tend to just put some big prop on wheels and cover it with black velvet. Then they hold op a big cloth downstage and roll the piece forward uncovering it at the same time before the reveal. To me, this seems like an insult to the audience. They are standing in front of a huge black void and they hold a sheet up downstage obsecuring your view of everything behind it. Is there anyone in the audience that can't guess what happened? I've seen this time after time with fake cars, trains, motorcycles and anything else big they can find. It is everything that is wrong with magic. It would be very different if you defined the space with a tube of cloth or a controlled barrier of some sort. Otherwise the spectators have no other answer other then it just slid in from the back.

Maybe if the performer could get a whole bunch of 'audience members' to hold hands in a circle to create and define the space where the magic is supposed to happen? Then of course, he or she might get these people to swear that they 'never ever let go of their shared grip'. I bet that would help convince the viewing audience!
On second thought...

Murry, was on the new World Greatest last week, had members come stand behind he cloth on the sides, not actually behind the cloth, but on the side, so they could see behind the cloth. Then a sports car appeared. One girl was surprised and very talkative, but you could not hear her, just her surprise. I thought it was still weak, they did not start the car, it just sat there with a girl waving in the driver's window.

Was it a puff of smoke and a car just appeared? Of course not. What was it that they saw? We all know of course, but I think it is lunacy to feel this actually proves anything. I feel it's a slap in the face to the real audience. At least when David did it with the jet, there was a plausibility that they might not have been able to see anything and actually added some credibility to the effect. Placing spectators where they are actually able to see the effect AND method and then trying to somehow depend on their acting ability leaves more unanswered questions than answers.

I kind of like Dick's idea of handcuffing them, maybe blindfold them too.

And a cocktail of of propofyl and sodium pentathol ... one chemical knocks them out during the 'event' and that other one is a truth serum for afterwards.

Hi Paradize, the last three illusions in JC Sum's book 'Equilateral 3' deal with stage car appearances. I'm sure one of them would fit your needs. Also JC published a free download on this subject on his website a while ago; may still be around.
Also check out 'Car Cage' in Rand Woodbury's 'Illusionworks' Vol 1; be aware though this cannot use a genuine car. |

Hi Paradize. I know you said you're just looking for DVD's. But if you're ever looking for a fairly large and fairly inexpensive item to produce that's commercially available, try the "Appearing Sailboat" from Magic Makers in Canada. I got one a few months ago. Though it's certainly not the largest item that anyone has ever made appear, but the method is easy, and different from most.
