On occasion I, and I'm sure many others, have had posts edited because they were quoting the post immediately prior.
I understand why you wouldn't want this, so why not simply make it impossible to do in the first place? My idea is simply to program the Café board so that the last post (and just the last post) in any topic simply doesn't offer the "quote" option. This will prevent wasted storage space on the Café's servers, as well as wasted time on the part of the Café's staff. |

The quote function can be used to quote the previous post's just not the post immediately following. The reason for this (aside from wasted storage space) is that it makes for a better read. However, deleting the quote should not change your post as the original post does not get edited only the quote is deleted.

There is nothing that remains so constant as change. Don't end up like concrete, all mixed up and permanently set.

Scott,
That could be a good option in many cases. The flaw in such a system is when there is a long post and someone wants to quote a tiny part of it as relevant to their own post immediately following the original. But it is great that our members are always thinking about how to improve their experience here at The Café. Sincerely, Tom Cutts Moderator |
